Single domain ferromagnetic particles have a large coercive force. This character disappears at elevated temperature and the particles behave as if they are paramagnetic even at the temperature below the Curie point. The recent development in this field is reviewed.

Free volume vf is defined as that part of the thermal expansion, or excess volume Δv̄ which can be redistributed without energy change. Assuming a Lennard-Jones potential function for a molecule within its cage in the condensed phase, it can be shown that at small Δv̄ considerable energy is required to redistribute th…
The polymerization of silicic acid in the solution obtained by treating quartz with water at temperature 400℃ and under a specific volume of water 1.6ml/g was investigated from the changes in the concentration of molecular silica, the results were compared with those already reported, in which the silicic acid prepare…
Optical transmission and reflection measurements were made on a single crystal of CdSe (crystal class ${C}_{6v}$) with light polarized parallel and perpendicular to the $c$ axis. The absorption coefficients, ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{\mathrm{II}}$, were determined and are prese…
Existence of a ferrimagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase transition with decreasing temperature in Mn2Sb modified with 2.3 weight percent chromium is confirmed by neutron diffraction.Received 5 July 1960DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRev.120.1969©1960 American Physical Society
Color centers have been investigated in the CsCl-type alkali halides. Cesium chloride, bromide, and iodide single crystals were grown from the melt and CsCl crystals also from solution. Coloration was produced by 130-kv x rays, 3.0-Mev electrons, and by electrolysis. In CsI coloration resulted from electrolysis only.…
A discussion is given of the dispersion relation, magnetization distribution, and group velocity of magnetostatic waves in an infinite circular cylinder with the static magnetic field parallel to the cylinder axis. The dispersion relation of the modes with ${e}^{i\ensuremath{\phi}}$ angular dependence is, for $\mathrm…
Abstract The arrangement of the dislocations has been studied in iron in various conditions, namely annealed, cold-worked, recovered and after creep. In all conditions the dislocation network is characterized by attractive intersections where two dislocations join to make one dislocation, and there is convincing evide…
By Michel Bayet Paris : Masson et Cie. Pp. 404. Price 65 NF. This is essentially a text book based on other textbooks and in a subject that changes as rapidly as nuclear physics this is just not good enough. The author disarmingly reveals these secondary sources in the preface.
This article is focused on thermoelectric cooling (TEC) and thermoelectric power generation (TEG). Detailed theoretical modeling and characterization were presented with the key performance highlighted. Heat transfers from heat sinks on both hot and cold surfaces of the thermoelectric models were discussed and measure…
Experimental results are presented to indicate the effects of a thin protective shield on reducing the penetration of simulated meteoroids. The study is mainly of lead impacting lead at 2.5 km/sec. The effects of thickness and separation of the shield are investigated. It is shown that a shield of thickness slightly l…
A laboratory technique, closely simulating industrial practice, has been developed for the examination of the relative feltability of scoured Merino wools. The extent of feltability is evaluated in terms of breaking load and porosity to air of the resultant felt. Whilst it is confirmed that fine wools will give a less…
In a demountable vacuum system a latent image is formed of a region on a metal target which has been subjected to very weak electron bombardment. This image can be made visible by electroplating the target in a copper sulphate solution. An experimental investigation of the influence of bombarding current, electron ene…

Precession and Weissenberg films of a single crystal of synthesized brannerite show that the compound is monoclinic, C2/m with a = 9.87, b = 3.76, c = 6.95 Aa, beta = 119 degrees 309. The cell contains 2[UTi 2 O 6 ]. Sp. gr. (meas.) = 6.35, (calc.) = 6.36. The cell constants and space group are compatible with the for…
