Chloroperoxidase compound I: electron paramagnetic resonance and Moessbauer studies

R. Rutter、Lowell P. Hager、Howard Dhonau 等 6 位作者1984-12-01Biochemistry

The green primary compound of chloroperoxidase was prepared by freeze-quenching the enzyme after rapid mixing with a 5-fold excess of peracetic acid. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of these preparations consisted of at least three distinct signals that could be assigned to native enzyme, a free radi…

Intrinsic and Extrinsic Control of Growth in Developing Organs

Peter J. Bryant、Patricia Simpson1984-12-01The Quarterly Review of Biology

The growth rate and final size of developing organs is controlled by organ-intrinsic mechanisms as well as by hormones and growth factors that originate outside the target organ. Recent work on Drosophila imagined discs and other regenerating systems has led to the conclusion that the intrinsic growth-control mechanis…

Modulation doping in GexSi1−x/Si strained layer heterostructures

R. People、J. C. Bean、D. V. Lang 等 8 位作者1984-12-01Applied Physics Letters

We report the first observation of the modulation doping effect in Si/Ge0.2Si0.8 heterojunctions grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Peak hole mobilities of ∼3300 cm2 V−1 s−1 have been observed at 4.2 K. These values, although nonoptimum, are comparable to the best reported values for holes in Si/SiO2 inversion layers. L…

Toughening Behavior in Sic‐Whisker‐Reinforced Alumina

Paul Becher、George Wei1984-12-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The development of hot‐pressed Sic‐whisker‐reinforced alumina has resulted in composites with fracture toughness values ∼;8.7 MPa·m 112 at 20 vol% SiC. Whisker orientation during processing leads to anisotropy in both fracture toughness and fracture strength. Fracture strengths are also limited by the ability to dispe…

Acción de las radiaciones U.V. sobre el poli (cloruro de vinilo) flexible

Juan J. Ortega、Manuel Blanco、Ángel Cuevas1984-12-01Materiales de Construccion

The aim of this work is the study of the U.V. radiations effects on plasticized Poly (vinyl chloride) used as waterproofing membrane in Building and also in Public Works. The ageing fact due to U.V. radiations has been followed for 3.000 hours, checking the changes produced in the composition of the material, on its m…

Demetrio Gaspar-Tébar、José Luis Sagrera-Moreno1984-12-01Materiales de Construccion

This work, which follows on from previous ones, studies the development of the solid-stage quantity formed in ASTM D 1141-75 artificial sea-water, in which the series of samples of mortar (1:3), made up of a portland cement resistant to sulfate (cement 2 < > P 450-Y) and the mixtures: cement 2/slag = 85/15, 65/35, 40/…

Outline of a variational formulation of zone-plate theory

R. Tatchyn、Paul L. Csonka、Ingolf Lindau1984-12-01Journal of the Optical Society of America B

Transmission zone plates composed of materials describable by the complex index of refraction n^[n^=(1-δ)+ik] modulate both the amplitude and the phase of the light passing through them. In this paper, a general variational approach to the design of zone-plate profiles that maximize system transfer functions, such as…

Structure, spectra, and stability of solid bismuth carbonates

Peter G. Taylor、S. Sunder、Vincent J. Lopata1984-12-01Canadian Journal of Chemistry

A previously unreported basic bismuth carbonate, (Bi0)4(0H)2C03, has been identified as an intermediate product in the interconversion of a-BiZ03 and synthetic bismutite, (BiO)?CO,, in aqueous carbonate solutions. It has a narrow stability field, between C 0 2 partial pressures of 10-55".0 Pa and IO-' .""' Pa, in the…

Photosensitive Dihydroazulenes with Chromogenic Properties

Jörg Daub、Thomas Kunz Contributor Paul Knochel、Albrecht Mannschreck1984-12-01Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English

Even daylight effects the rearrangement of dihydroazulene 1 into 8-vinylheptafulvene 2; thermally, the reaction proceeds in the reverse direction. The behavior of 1 is largely determined by the residue R. The reaction cycle could find application in the storage of information.

Continuum Theory for Strain‐Softening

Zdeněk P. Bažant、Ted Belytschko、Ta‐Peng Chang1984-12-01OpenAlex

In heterogeneous materials such as concretes or rocks, failure occurs by progressive distributed damage during which the material exhibits strain‐softening, i.e., a gradual decline of stress at increasing strain. It is shown that strain‐softening which is stable within finite‐size regions and leads to a nonzero energy…

Collision integral for elastic scattering of electrons and phonons

B. Sturman1984-11-30Soviet Physics Uspekhi

The form of the collision integral describing elastic scattering of electrons and phonons by crystal defects is discussed once again. It is shown that in the absence of detailed balance for the transition probability (Wkk' ≠ Wk'k), the collision integral does not contain Fermi or Bose factors (1nk) contrary to the poi…

Structural Disorder and Mechanochemical Reactions in Solids

P. Yu. Butyagin1984-11-30Russian Chemical Reviews

The present review is devoted to an analysis of the relationship between the changes in the structure and reactivity of solids, brought about by the development of a deformation. It has been shown that the principal regular features of mechanochemical transformations are determined by the extent of the structural diso…
