The phase transitions of ferroelastic K2SeBr6: A calorimetric and x-ray diffraction study

W. Abriel、Mary Anne White1990-12-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

Guinier x-ray powder diffraction data in the temperature range from T=10 to 290 K, and heat capacity measurements from T=40 to 280 K indicate three phases for K2SeBr6. The high-temperature cubic structure [K2PtCl6 -type, space group Fm3̄m; a=10.4211(7) Å at T=290 K] transforms at 237.8±0.3 K with ΔStr=(1.36±0.02) J K−…

A microstructure based magnetization reversal model in sintered Fe-Nd-B magnets. I

R. Ramesh1990-12-01Journal of Applied Physics

A microstructure based magnetization reversal model is presented for sintered Fe-Nd-B magnets. The model makes use of a position dependent domain wall energy profile to correlate the intrinsic coercivity, iHc (and the nucleation field) to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy field. The inferences of the model are verifie…

[1.1.1]Propellane and maleic anhydride: Face‐specific copolymerization with formation of an alternating 1:1 copolymer

Jan‐Michael Gosau、A. Dieter Schlüter1990-12-01Chemische Berichte

Abstract The spontaneous and face‐specific copolymerization of [l.l.l]propellane and maleic anhydride to give the strictly alternating 1:1 copolymer 2 is described. The molecular weight of 2 after transformation into the corresponding diester 5c was determined to be 80.000 (M n ) and 220.000 (M w ), respectively.

Effect of scattering processes on the spectra of electrons emitted from the surface of solids: Monte Carlo calculations

A. Špalek1990-12-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract Electron scatterings in the volume and at the surface of a solid are simulated by the Monte Carlo method. The effect on the electron distributions is demonstrated in some typical cases: aluminium, copper and gold covered with a carbonaceous layer.

Isocitrate lyase from Phycomyces blakesleeanus. The role of Mg2+ ions, kinetics and evidence for two classes of modifiable thiol groups

Javier Rúa、Dolores de Arriaga、Félix Busto 等 4 位作者1990-12-01Biochemical Journal

Isocitrate lyase was purified from Phycomyces blakesleeanus N.R.R.L. 1555(-). The native enzyme has an Mr of 240,000. The enzyme appeared to be a tetramer with apparently identical subunits of Mr 62,000. The enzyme requires Mg2+ for activity, and the data suggest that the Mg2(+)-isocitrate complex is the true substrat…

Finiteness of the number of collisions in a hard sphere particle system in all space, II: Arbitrary diameters and masses

Reinhard Illner1990-12-01Transport Theory and Statistical Physics

Consider a system of N hard spheres of radii d i > 0 and masses m i < 0, i = 1,…, N. The spheres may interact through elastic pair collisions but move freely otherwise in all of R3. It is shown that (with the exception of a set of initial states of measure zero) there are at most finitely many collisions for any given…

Shear induced order of hard sphere suspensions

Bruce J. Ackerson1990-12-01Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

Hard spheres serve as one of the basic models in classical equilibrium statistical mechanics, as well as, in fluid mechanics. Sterically stabilized polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) spheres suspended in certain organic solvents have interparticle interactions which approximate the hard sphere interaction. Thus the equilib…

Alteration in electrical and infrared switching properties of vanadium oxides due to proton irradiation

A. Leone、A.M. Trione、F. A. Junga1990-12-01IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science

The effects of proton irradiation on the electrical and infrared switching properties of vanadium oxides were studied. Bombardments are carried out to fluences typical of long-term space missions. Proton bombardment significantly alters semiconductor phase resistivity, infrared transmissivity, transition temperature a…

Roland Winter、P. A. Egelstaff、W -C Pilgrim 等 4 位作者1990-12-01Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

A series of neutron diffraction experiments have been used to investigate the properties of liquid, solid and amorphous sulphur. The liquid was studied from 131 degrees C to 230 degrees C, i.e. at conditions around the λ -transition (T λ =159 degrees C). The amorphous sample was studied at -196 degrees C and the cryst…

Abstract The effect of heating on the water sorption capacity of a La-saturated montmorillonite, La-Mt, has been investigated. Sodium and Li as exchangeable ions have also been included for comparative purposes. XPS of La-Mt shows no migration of La(III) from interlamellar positions to octahedral sites on heating at 3…

Radiation‐Induced degradation of polyethylene: Polymer structure and stability

Ayako Torikai、R. Geetha、Shigeo Nagaya 等 4 位作者1990-12-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A Polymer Chemistry

Abstract The radiation‐stability of annealed and quenched polyethylene (PE) was estimated by gel, FTIR, and mechanical property (elongation at break) measurements. Although both types of PE showed an equal probability in gel and carbonyl formation, the resistance to γ‐ray irradiation as probed by elongation at break (…
