Rheological behaviour of a smectic A liquid crystal under layer compression

Roberto Bartolino、G. Durand1983-01-01Journal de Physique Lettres

We measure the apparent bulk modulus corresponding to the layer compression of a SA liquid crystal, versus the frequency of an applied strain. For thin samples, we observe an elastic regime, a high frequency internal friction resonance, and at low frequency a stress relaxation attributed to the climb of edge dislocati…

Light scattering in nematic liquid crystals in the presence of shear flow

Harald Pleiner、H. R. Brand1983-01-01Journal de Physique Lettres

We theoretically investigate fluctuations in a nematic liquid crystal about a non-equilibrium steady state due to a stationary shear flow. For the special case, where the wave-vector lies in the shear plane, we find that the central peak in the light scattering spectrum (caused by director fluctuations) is (in additio…

The Elastic Properties of the Glasses in the Systems R2O-B2O3-SiO2 (R=Na and K) and Na2O-B2O3

Katsuaki Takahashi、Akiyoshi Osaka、R. Furuno1983-01-01Journal of the Ceramic Association Japan
