Dynamics of polarization loss in (Pb, La)(Zr, Ti)O3 thin film capacitors

I. G. Jenkins、Tengfei Song、S. Madhukar 等 6 位作者1998-06-22Applied Physics Letters

We report results of high-speed polarization relaxation measurements in ferroelectric thin film capacitors. Polarization relaxation has been reported to occur in two distinct time regimes, one for relaxation times in the range of a few milliseconds and a second for longer relaxation times. We find that the polarizatio…

José P. Palao、J. G. Muga、R. Sala1998-06-22Physical Review Letters

The multiple scattering interferences due to the addition of several contiguous potential units are used to construct composite complex potentials that absorb at an arbitrary set of incident momenta or for a broad momentum interval.

Time Dependent Specific Heat of a Magnetic Quantum Tunneling System

Julio Fernández‐Cestau、Fernando Luis、J. Bartolomé1998-06-22Physical Review Letters

We apply Pauli's master equation to spin tunneling in ${\mathrm{Mn}}_{12}$ acetate, and argue that the corresponding relaxation is exponential in time. Taking advantage of this simplification we calculate the frequency dependent specific heat. The results are compared with recently obtained experimental ones. We also…

Position of K Atoms in Doped Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Crystals

Guang‐hua Gao、Tahir Çağın、William A. Goddard1998-06-22Physical Review Letters

Recent experiments by Lee et al. [Nature (London) 363, 255 (1997)] show that doping carbon single-wall nanotube (SWNT) ropes with K, Rb, or ${\mathrm{Br}}_{2}$ leads to metallic conductivity, but the structure and properties are not known. We used molecular dynamics to predict structures and properties which should he…

Metal–oxide bilayer Raman scattering in SrTiO3 thin films

V. I. Merkulov、J.R. Fox、Hongcheng Li 等 6 位作者1998-06-22Applied Physics Letters

We have used a metal–oxide bilayer Raman scattering technique to study lattice dynamics in SrTiO3 thin films. The SrTiO3 thin films were epitaxially grown on a conducting metal–oxide layer which reflects the exciting laser beam so that it does not enter the LaAlO3 substrate. Raman scattering from the SrTiO3 thin films…

Xinrong Wang、Hiroshi Masumoto、Yoshihiro Someno 等 4 位作者1998-06-22Applied Physics Letters

Thirty one layer TiO2/SiO2 optical filters with graded refractive index profiles were fabricated by helicon plasma sputtering at room temperature. Multilayer films were deposited on glass (BK7) and Si (100) substrates simultaneously and sequentially. The measured transmittance spectrum exhibited a reflectance of 99.8%…

Preparation and magnetic properties of manganese(II) phthalocyanine thin films

Hiroyuki Yamada、Toshihiro Shimada、Atsushi Koma1998-06-22The Journal of Chemical Physics

We report the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth of the manganese(II) phthalocyanine thin films with unique crystal structure and the measurement of their magnetic properties. The epitaxial films were grown on hydrogen-terminated Si(111) substrates. Reflection high energy electron diffraction observations showed that…

Inducing a large second-order optical nonlinearity in soft glasses by poling

F. C. Garcia、Isabel C. S. Carvalho、E. N. Hering 等 5 位作者1998-06-22Applied Physics Letters

Electrothermal poling of soft glasses (soda lime and borosilicate glass) at relatively high currents led to the creation of a second-order optical nonlinearity. The second-harmonic generation efficiency decays in time, and the decay rate can be accelerated by exposure to intense infrared radiation.

Dominant defect levels in diamond thin films: A photocurrent and electron paramagnetic resonance study

Miloš Nesládek、L.M. Stals、A. Stesmans 等 7 位作者1998-06-22Applied Physics Letters

Characteristic features in photocurrent (PC) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra are discussed and attributed to main defects in the gap of optical-quality chemical vapor deposited diamond. A shoulder in the PC spectra with an onset at about 2.2 eV is attributed to the single-substitutional nitrogen defe…

Effects of Dislocation Interactions: Application to the Period-Doubled Core of the 90° Partial in Silicon

Niklas Lehto、Sven Öberg1998-06-22Physical Review Letters

The elastic strain field of a dislocation is highly affected by nearby dislocations. The effects of dislocation-dislocation interactions on elastic energy and core structure are analyzed using a new and self-consistent method to apply periodic boundary conditions on unit cells containing dislocations. Local density fu…

Thermodynamics of the Glassy State: Effective Temperature as an Additional System Parameter

Theo M. Nieuwenhuizen1998-06-22Physical Review Letters

A system is glassy when the observation time is much smaller than the equilibration time. A unifying thermodynamic picture of the glassy state is presented. Slow configurational modes are in quasiequilibrium at an effective temperature. It enters thermodynamic relations with the configurational entropy as a conjugate…

Simple finite field method for calculation of static and dynamic vibrational hyperpolarizabilities: Curvature contributions

Bernard Kirtman、Josep M. Luis、David M. Bishop1998-06-22The Journal of Chemical Physics

In the static field limit, the vibrational hyperpolarizability consists of two contributions due to: (1) the shift in the equilibrium geometry (known as nuclear relaxation), and (2) the change in the shape of the potential energy surface (known as curvature). Simple finite field methods have previously been developed…
