Numerous studies have reported a spectrum of sorption phenomena in soils, sediments, and organic matter isolates of those materials that are inconsistent with a partition model proposed in the late 1970s and early 1980s, a model predicated on a hypothesis that sorption is linear and noncompetitive. To explain these no…

Continuous flow of ballistic charge carriers is generated by an exothermic chemical reaction and detected using the catalytic metal-semiconductor Schottky diode. We obtained a hot electron current for several hours using two types of catalytic nanodiodes, Pt/TiO2 or Pt/GaN, during carbon monoxide oxidation at pressure…

Electrical spin injection from ferromagnetic $δ$-MnGa into an (Al,Ga)As p-i-n light emitting diode (LED) is demonstrated. The $δ$-MnGa layers show strong perpendicular magnetocrystalline anisotropy, enabling detection of spin injection at remanence without an applied magnetic field. The bias and temperature dependence…

We have studied the possibly half metallic Co2FeSi full Heusler alloy by means of spin- and time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. For excitation, the second and fourth harmonic of femtosecond Ti:sapphire lasers were used, with photon energies of 3.1 eV and 5.9 eV, respectively. We compare the dependence of the mea…

We report on the experimental observation of an anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in highly oriented pyrolytic graphite samples. The overall data indicate that the AHE in graphite can be self-consistently understood within the frameworks of the magnetic-field-driven excitonic pairing models.

The basic premise of gene therapy is that genes can be used to produce in situ therapeutic proteins. The controlled delivery of DNA complexes from biomaterials offers the potential to enhance gene transfer by maintaining an elevated concentration of DNA within the cellular microenvironment. Immobilization of the DNA t…

Abstract The presence of organic acid species in formation water of oil and gas reservoirs has long been suspected to contribute to the corrosivity of the system under CO2 corrosion. The effect had been regarded as secondary until new findings in the 80's and 90's revealed the increase in corrosion rate in CO2 environ…

Abstract Transportation of wet (water containing) gas and condensate in carbon steel pipelines requires corrosion control. By increasing the pH to a level where FeCO3 precipitates as a protective film on the iron surface the corrosion rate can be reduced to a low level. This method, called pH stabilization, is primari…

Porous silicon film is a capillary-like medium, which is able to reveal different meso-elastic modulus with porosity. During the preparation of porous silicon samples, the capillary force is a non-classic force related to the liquid evaporation which directly influences the evolution of residual stress. In this study,…

We experimentally study the physical mechanism of the drag reduction of hydrophobic materials in the macroscopic scale. The experiment includes the drag and velocity measurements of laminar boundary layer flow over flat plates, and the observation of air bubbles on the surfaces. The plate surfaces have different wetti…

Natural gas appears to be a fuel of great interest for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems. It mainly consists of methane, which can be converted into hydrogen by direct internal reforming (DIR) within the SOFC anode. However, a major limitation to DIR is carbon formation within the ceramic layers at intermediate tem…
