Electrical properties of lead-zirconate–lead-titanate ferroelectric thin films and their composition analysis by Auger electron spectroscopy

Akira Okada1978-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

Lead-zirconate–lead-titanate (PZT) thin films with perovskite and pyrochlore structures were successfully fabricated on several kinds of substrates by rf diode sputtering. Semiquantitative compositional analysis of the deposited thin films were made with Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). The films were deposited from…

Low Temperature Sensitization of Welded Type 304 Stainless Steel

M. J. POVICH、Pushpa M. Rao1978-08-01CORROSION

It has been shown that the sensitization of Type 304 stainless steel occurs at temperatures well below the normal isothermal temperature range for sensitization. A prerequisite for this low temperature sensitization (LTS) is the presence of chromium carbide nuclei along grain boundaries. This paper shows that the ther…

Catalysis by Supported Metal Crystallites from Carbonyl Clusters. II. Catalytic Ethanol Synthesis from CO and H2 under Atmospheric Pressure over Supported Rhodium Crystallites Prepared from Rh Carbonyl Clusters Deposited on TiO2, ZrO2, and La2O3

Masaru Ichikawa1978-08-01Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Abstract Ethanol was catalytically produced in the CO–H2 reaction under atmospheric pressure and at 150–250 °C over rhodium crystallite catalysts prepared from Rh carbonyl cluster compounds highly dispersed on La2O3, TiO2, and ZrO2. The activity and selectivity of ethanol formation depend on the kind of metal carbonyl…

Dielectric constants of the alkaline-earth chalcogenides

Shubhank Goyal1978-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

In the present study, the correlation between fractional ionic character and dielectric constants is applied to predict the magnitudes of the static dielectric constant ε0 of the several alkaline-earth-chalcogenide solids. The calculated values of ε0, together with the other known experimental data of these solids, ar…

A Thermodynamic Theory of the Improper Antiferroelectric Phase Transition in ADP

H. Konwent、Jan Lorenc1978-08-01physica status solidi (b)

Abstract The thermodynamic theory of the elastic and dielectric properties of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate is developed on the basis of the improper phase transition. By the representation analysis the transformation properties of the two‐component order parameter are investigated and the thermodynamic potential of t…

Apparent Threshold Characteristics of Pretilted Liquid Crystal Cells

Sadashi Shimoda、Hitoshi Mada、Shunsuke Kobayashi1978-08-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

The influence of a small pretilt on the voltage dependence of the capacitance ( C - V ) of non-twisting liquid crystal cells is described. Calculated C - V curves were fitted to the observed ones by adjusting the value of a single parameter, the pretilt angle; the magnitudes of the pretilt angle obtained in this way w…

In vitro antiplaque properties of a series of alkyl bis(biguanides)

Robert A. Coburn、Pamela J. Baker、R. T. Evans 等 5 位作者1978-08-01Journal of Medicinal Chemistry

A series of eight alkyl bis(biguanide) analogues of alexidine, N,N''''-1,6-hexanediyl bis[N'-(2-ethylhexyl)imidodicarbonimidic diamide] (1), was prepared. Five of these analogues constituted a series isolipophilic with 1 but with varying bridge length between biguanide moieties. The compounds were evaluated in vitro f…

Gordon R. Murdock、John D. Currey1978-08-01Biological Bulletin

1. The shells of specimens of Semibalanus balanoides and Balanus balanus were loaded in compression. For shells of similar mass or pseudovolume (1 χ b χ h), B. balanus was about four times as strong as S. balanoides. 2. The morphology of the shell plates and their junctions is described. The shell of B. balanus is mec…

Neutron incoherent scattering law for diffusion in a cosine potential in one dimension: Application to self-diffusion in smectic phases

F. Volino、A.J. Dianoux1978-08-01Molecular Physics

The properties of a particle undergoing translational diffusion in one dimension, in the presence of a cosine potential, are investigated. Translational order parameters are defined and the neutron incoherent scattering law is calculated. The simple diffusion model and the jump model between equidistant sites are foun…

Dielectric breakdown threshold, two-photon absorption, and other optical damage mechanisms in diamond

Perry Liu、R. Yen、N. Bloembergen1978-08-01IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics

The breakdown threshold and two-photon absorption coefficient are measured in diamond with picosecond pulses at 1.06 and 0.53 μm. The rms breakdown threshold at 1.06 μm is 21.5 MV/cm. The two-photon absorption coefficient at 0.53 μm is less than2.6 \times 10^{-4}cm/MW.

Superconducting Properties of TaSe3

Masafumi Yamamoto1978-08-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

We studied the effect of the anisotropic crystal structure of TaSe 3 on its superconducting properties. The upper critical field H c2 was estimated from the resistive transition curve as functions of the field direction and temperature. The large anisotropy of H c2 was found in the plane containing the b -axis and the…

The study of glide on {001} planes in f.c.c. metals deformed at room temperature

H. P. Karnthaler1978-08-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

In face-centred-cubic metals the {111} planes are the predominant slip planes. Glide on other less densely packed planes has hitherto not been encountered in specimens deformed at room temperature. Glide dislocations can react with each other and form Lomer-Cottrell (LC) locks; they are split on two intersecting {111}…

EPR STUDIES ON SINGLET OXYGEN PRODUCTION BY PORPHYRINS

Salvatore Cannistraro、A. Van de Vorst、Giulio Jori1978-08-01Photochemistry and Photobiology

Abstract— EPR studies of the porphyrin‐sensitized photooxidation of 2, 2, 6,6‐tetramethyl‐piperidine to the nitroxide demonstrate that all the porphyrins examined are able to generate 1 O 2 , although the efficiency of the photoprocess is dependent on the nature of the side chains. Incorporation of metal ions into the…
