Infra‐red spectra of polyvinyl acetate and poly‐α, α', β‐trideuterovinyl acetate

J.K. Haken、R.L. Werner1971-07-01British Polymer Journal

Abstract The infra‐red spectrum of polyvinyl acetate has been studied from 4000 to 150 cm‐1 and a detailed assignment made. To assist with the assignments the partially deuterated polymer, poly‐α, α, β‐trideuterovinyl acetate, and a branched‐chain acetate have been synthesised and their spectra examined.

The Differential Thermal Analysis of Potassium Oxalate

Tatsuo Higashiyama、Shigeo Hasegawa1971-07-01Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Abstract From the differential thermal and thermogravimetric analyses of potassium oxalate together with the X-ray diffraction studies, three crystallographic modifications of the anhydrous salt were found. When potassium oxalate monohydrate crystals were dehydrated at, e.g., 140°C, phase II, which is stable below 381…

Orientation effects in biaxially stretched linear polyethylene

G. C. Adams1971-07-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract The literature on polymer morphology contains many studies of structural and orientation changes occurring upon uniaxial stretching of films and fibers, but it has only an occasional reference to such studies on biaxially stretched film. This paper presents data on a structural change due to simultaneous biax…

Principles of metal oxidation

R. C. Logani、W. W. Smeltzer1971-07-01Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly

The principles governing formation of superficial oxides on metal surfaces are surveyed. Oxide crystals grow on a metal surface by rearrangement and place exchange within metal-oxygen substructures arising from the accumulation of oxygen by adsorption processes. The rate-controlling steps for growth of films are discu…

Electrical Conduction in Phthalocyanine Single Crystals

Yoshinobu Aoyagi、Kohzoh Masuda、Susumu Namba1971-07-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

Electrical conductivity and magneto resistance effect of Ni, Cu, Zn and metal free phthalocyanine single crystals were investigated. The electrical conductivity and the activation energy in phthalocyanine were expressed by following equations \begin{aligned} \sigma{=}Ne\mu_{D}\exp\left(\frac{\varDelta S}{2k}\right)\ex…

Stress Corrosion Cracking in 18% Ni (250) Maraging Steel

B. C. Syrett1971-07-01CORROSION

The susceptibility of 18% Ni (250) maraging steel to stress corrosion cracking in 3.5% NaCl solution has been investigated. Metallographic and fractographic examinations show distinct differences between specimens broken under free corrosion conditions and those broken under hydrogen charging conditions. It is propose…

Sintering of UN as a Function of Temperature and N 2 Pressure

V.J. Tennery、T.G. Godfrey、R.A. Potter1971-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The sintering of uranium mononitride (UN) depends on temperature and the N 2 pressure maintained over the nitride during heat treatment. At a given temperature, an N 2 pressure that maintained the UN in the single‐phase region slightly above the phase boundary where the reaction UN→U+½N 2 (g) occurred was most effecti…

L.E. Sobon、K. A. Wickersheim、R. A. Buchanan 等 4 位作者1971-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

To better determine the optical properties of the rare-earth oxysulfide phosphors and to lay the foundation for their application in single-crystal form as scintillators and lasers we have grown, for the first time, single crystals of these materials. A description of present growth techniques will be presented. Mater…

Plastic deformation of polyethylene crystals

H. Gleiter、A. S. Argon1971-07-01Philosophical magazine

Polyethylene single crystals attached to a copper substrate were plastically deformed at −196°C and 20°C. Slip lines were observed at all temperatures on the surface of the crystals. The observations suggest that plastic deformation in polyethylene crystals may occur by crystallographic slip due to the movement of dis…

The effect of molecular weight and orientation on the sorption of n‐pentane by glassy polystyrene

Bennett R. Baird、H. B. Hopfenberg、V. Stannett1971-07-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract The effects of polymer molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and orientation on the rate of relaxation‐controlled sorption of n‐pentane by glassy polystyrene were studied. The sorption follows Case II kinetics but for films which sorb slowly the sorption rate increases at relatively long times unti…

Dissociation ofEu+3Charge-Transfer State inY2O2S andLa2O2S intoEu+2and a Free Hole

C. W. Struck、W. H. Fonger1971-07-01Physical review. B, Solid state

In ${\mathrm{Y}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$S: Eu and ${\mathrm{La}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$S: Eu, excitation into the charge-transfer states (CTS) of ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{+3}$ leads partially to the dissociation of the CTS into ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{+2}$ and a free hole which may subsequently be trapped. The extent of CTS dissociatio…
