A method for the isolation of an iron-molybdenum cofactor (FeMoCo) from component I of nitrogenase is described. This method is used to isolate FeMoCo from aerobic, anaerobic, facultative, and photosynthetic nitrogen-fixing organisms. The Fe/Mo ratio in the FeMoCo from Azotobacter vinelandii and Clostridium pasteurian…

The In and Sn 3d3/2 and 3d5/2 ESCA peaks and the oxygen 1s peak of Sn-doped In2O3 films were compared with those for In2O3 films and In2O3, SnO, SnO2, and Sn3O4 powders. Comparison of as-grown with sanded surfaces revealed Sn-rich surface layers in.those films having good optical and transport properties. These experi…

Band structures and Fermi surfaces are presented for three quasi-octahedral layer compounds. The dependence of both properties on the component k z of the wavevector normal to the layers is shown to be important particularly in its effect on the formation of charge density waves. Whereas the nesting of the Fermi surfa…

At both the cubic-rhombohedral phase-transition temperature ${T}_{c}$ and the zero-gap temperature ${T}_{b}$, anomalous increases in Raman intensities are observed in ${\mathrm{Pb}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Sn}}_{x}\mathrm{Te}$ (for $x=0\ensuremath{-}1$) single crystals. These are attributed to Raman scattering enha…

Results on the magnetic-field dependence of the order parameter in a nematic single crystal are reported for the first time: The induced birefringence of a nematic single crystal of 4\ensuremath{'}-$n$-heptyl-4-cyanobiphenyl was found to vary linearly with the magnetic field as predicted by the fluctuation theory.

We show that the linear compound Nb${\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$ becomes superconducting under pressure. We have measured the initial slope of the magnetization of Nb${\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$ as a function of pressure down to temperatures as low as 50 mK. A very small pressure is necessary in order for the superconductivity to occur.…

In pure titanium deformed at room temperature, a broad internal friction peak centred at −102 °C (Pd), a subsidiary peak at −140 °C (P′d) and a small hump at −50 °C (Pα) are observed at 1 Hz. On subsequent annealing, the heights of these peaks decrease monotonously over the temperature range from 50 to 200 °C, and to…

To dope VO2 thin films ion implantation is used and compared with other doping technologies. Argon, boron, and phosphorus are chosen as doping materials. The influence of doping on the resistance—temperatur dependence of the VO2 thin films is measured in different annealing states after implantation. Doping with P-ion…

For monocrystalline V1-xMexO2-y samples (Me = Ga, Al, Fe) the effect of nonstoichiometry (oxygen deficiency) on the electrical, magnetic, and structural properties of Me3±-doped vanadium dioxide is investigated. A comparison is made of two versions of the acoustic-mismatch theory of the thermal boundary resistance $R$ which occurs at the interface between a pair of solids.
