Interpretation of the intermediate scattering function at short times

Bruce J. Ackerson、P. N. Pusey、R.J.A. Tough1982-02-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

By considering the intermediate scattering function for simple liquids and suspensions of colloidal particles, we discuss and refute the idea that the short-time collective behavior of such systems is dominated by ’’free-particle’’ motions.

Effect of Water Content on Transport in Na 2 O· 3 SiO 2 Glass

M. Takata、M. Tomozawa、E. Bruce Watson1982-02-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Na 2 O· 3 SiO 2 glasses of high water content were prepared under high‐pressure, hydrothermal conditions. The sodium diffusion coefficient, DNa , in these glasses measured at 100°C depended strongly on H 2 O content. With increasing H 2 O content, DNa . at 100°C decreased initially to a minimum at 3∼4 wt% H,O and then…

Reanalysis of Wustite Electrical Properties

E. Gartstein、Thomas O. Mason1982-02-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The high‐temperature electrical conductivity in Fe 1−x O is analyzed at constant thermoelectric coefficient rather than at constant x. Small polaron conduction is p‐type with an activation energy of 15.4 kJ/mole (0.16 eV), independent of composition. The electrical properties are consistent with the clusters known to…

The Fluorescence Lifetime of Trans‐Stilbene and its Variation with Temperature

Hans P. Good、Urs P. Wild、Edwin Haas 等 6 位作者1982-02-01Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie

Abstract The fluorescence lifetime of trans‐stilbene in solution was measured in the temperature range 300–80 K by three different methods. The decay was found to be mono‐exponential throughout, but prone to falsification by impurities, which may be responsible for the bi‐exponential decays reported by some authors. A…

Optical Transmission Loss of As–S Glass Fiber in 1.0–5.5 µm Wavelength Region

Tadashi Miyashita、Y. Terunuma1982-02-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

The optical transmission loss spectrum of an arsenic sulphide glass fiber was measured in a wavelength region between 1.0 and 5.5 µm. Minimum losses of 92 dB/km at 1.85 µm, 78 dB/km at 2.4 µm and 164 dB/km at 5.3 µm were obtained in the fiber with a small tail on the band edge absorption. The fiber was drawn from a hi…

The Effect of Fluid Flow on the Stress Corrosion Cracking of ASTM A508 Cl 2 Steel and AISI Type 304 Stainless Steel in High Temperature Water

Hojoong Choi、F. H. Beck、Z. Szklarska‐Śmiałowska 等 4 位作者1982-02-01CORROSION

The susceptibility of sensitized Type 304 stainless steel and ASTM A508 Cl 2 steel to SCC in high temperature oxygenated water, as determined using constant extension rate tests, is found to depend upon the velocity of the fluid flowing past the gauge section. This work has demonstrated that in both cases, the failure…

Nonferroic phase transitions

P. Tolédano、J. C. Tolédano1982-02-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Nonferroic phase transitions are defined as the structural transitions occurring with a breaking of translational symmetry within the same crystal class. They involve no new macroscopic tensor components below the transition point, and they are generally identified experimentally through the onset of superlattice refl…

A Comparison of Perfluorinated Carboxylate and Sulfonate Ion Exchange Polymers: I . Diffusion and Water Sorption

Howard L. Yeager、Zbigniew Twardowski、Loyal Clarke1982-02-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Sodium ion, cesium ion, and water self‐diffusion coefficients in a perfluorinated carboxylate polymer film have been measured. Results are compared to those obtained for a perfluorinated sulfonate polymer, Nafion. Both cation and water diffusion coefficients are very large in these materials in relation to the equilib…

Carbonate-containing apatites prepared from aqueous and non-aqueous media were investigated by ESR, IR, and X-ray diffraction. A typical asymmetric signal at g = 2.0, which many workers have observed in irradiated calcified tissues, is interpreted in terms of CO3(3)- and Co-2 and the trapped electron center, The CO3(3…
