D. D.、H.D. Do、D. Nicholson2007-07-01Adsorption Science & Technology

This paper is devoted to an investigation of the effects of surface structure (structure-less or structured) on the description of the adsorption isotherm and the isosteric heat of nitrogen and argon adsorption onto graphitized thermal carbon black. It was found that the surface structure had little effect on the adso…

H. Y. Huang、W. Y. Chu、Yanjing Su 等 6 位作者2007-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Semiconductor transformation of lead zirconate titanate (PZT)‐5H ferroelectric ceramics induced by hydrogen has been investigated. The results showed that hydrogen caused the PZT‐5H ferroelectric ceramics to transform from a yellow insulator into a black n ‐type semiconductor, and the leakage current and carrier conce…

Microwave dielectric properties of strained Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3 films with and without strain-induced permanent polarization at room temperature

Wontae Chang、L. M. B. Alldredge、S. W. Kirchoefer 等 4 位作者2007-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

At room temperature, Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3 films can be distorted into in-plane or out-of-plane tetragonal structure depending on the type of film strain while the bulk ferroelectric is in a paraelectric phase (i.e., cubic). The film distortion can be accompanied with or without strain-induced permanent polarization dependin…

Glasses for Nuclear Waste Immobilization

Michael I. Ojovan、O.G. Batyukhnova2007-07-01OpenAlex

Vitrification of nuclear wastes is attractive because of its flexibility, the large number of elements which can be incorporated in the glass, its high corrosion durability and the reduced volume of the resulting waste form. Vitrification is a mature technology and has been used for high level nuclear waste (HLW) immo…

First-principles study of contact between Ti surface and semiconducting carbon nanotube

Tiezhu Meng、Chong‐Yu Wang、Shan-Ying Wang2007-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

The electronic structure of contact between Ti surface and a semiconducting carbon nanotube is investigated by using first-principles method. The nanotube placed on the Ti surface exhibits obvious cross section distortion and strong chemical bonds form between C and Ti. Our results suggest that the nanotube may become…

Nonthermal Plasma Synthesis of Faceted Germanium Nanocrystals

P. Cernetti、Ryan Gresback、Stephen A. Campbell 等 4 位作者2007-07-01Chemical Vapor Deposition

Abstract Low‐pressure plasmas are known for their ability to synthesize nanoparticles via gas‐phase nucleation. While in the past this particle formation has often been considered from the viewpoint of a contamination problem in semiconductor processing, we here describe a low‐pressure plasma that enables the synthesi…

Novel magnetic half-metallic materials based on ionic insulators doped with nonmagnetic impurities: MgO + B, C, N Systems

V. V. Bannikov、I. R. Shein、A. L. Ivanovskiĭ2007-07-01Technical Physics Letters

It is established that magnesium oxide (a nonmagnetic ionic insulator) exhibits a transition to the state of a magnetic half-metal upon the introduction of nonmagnetic impurities (boron, carbon, or nitrogen) into the crystal lattice. The possibility of obtaining novel magnetic materials for spintronics by doping ionic…

Shear-induced diffusion in dilute suspensions of spherical or nonspherical particles: Effects of irreversibility and symmetry breaking

Mauricio Lopez、Michael D. Graham2007-07-01Physics of Fluids

Using Stokesian dynamics simulations, the shear-induced diffusivities due to pair collisions of identical spherical or nonspherical particles are considered, with the purpose to evaluate the effects of irreversibility and symmetry breaking. Results are compared to an approximate upper bound found by assuming that the…

Nanotribological characterization of vapor phase deposited fluorosilane self-assembled monolayers deposited on polydimethylsiloxane surfaces for biomedical micro-/nanodevices

Bharat Bhushan、M. Cichomski2007-07-01Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A Vacuum Surfaces and Films

Fluorosilane self-assembled monolayers for polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanochannels are desirable to control the hydrophobicity of the surface to reduce or prevent undesired protein adsorption or cell interactions, critical for the performance of many biomedical micro-/nanodevices. Surface modifications using vapor ph…

Expression of Plasmid DNA Released from DNA Conjugates of Gold Nanorods

Y. Horiguchi、Takuro Niidome、Sunao Yamada 等 5 位作者2007-07-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Pulsed-laser irradiation induced the release of plasmid DNA from conjugates of DNA and gold nanorods (GNRs). Gel electrophoresis indicated that 1% of the plasmid DNA conjugated with GNRs was released from the conjugates. In vitro assay indicated that 0.5% of plasmid DNA was active.

We study the phase transition from amorphous to face-centered-cubic (fcc) polycrystalline Ge2Sb2Te5 thin films. The transformation has the peculiar characteristic, still not well understood, of coexisting high transition rates at low annealing temperature (with grain growth velocities of the order of 1nm∕min at 140°C)…
