Simulations of phase transitions and free energies for ionic systems

Antti‐Pekka Hynninen、Athanassios Z. Panagiotopoulos2008-08-20Molecular Physics

A review of simulation studies of phase equilibria and free energies for systems dominated by coulombic interactions is presented. Phase transitions occur for ionic systems in the strong-coupling limit realized in low-dielectric constant solvents, at low temperatures, or for high charge valences. The majority of simul…

The dynamics of methanol and ethanol molecules confined in MCM-41 with pore diameters d = 2.1, 2.8, and 3.7 nm has been investigated by quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) and dielectric measurements. Two kinds of adsorbed amounts of liquids were studied: surface-adsorbed and capillary-condensed. The QENS measurem…

Electron-phonon superconductivity in LaNiPO

Alaska Subedi、David J. Singh、Mao-Hua Du2008-08-20Physical Review B

We report first-principles calculations of the electronic structure, phonon dispersions, and electron-phonon coupling of LaNiPO. These calculations show that this material can be explained as a conventional electron-phonon superconductor in contrast to the FeAs based high-temperature superconductors.

The Jahn−Teller Effect in Cu(II) Doped MgO

Andrew Dick、Elmars Krausz、Kieran S. Hadler 等 6 位作者2008-08-20The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

The Cu(II) doped MgO system is known to display features indicating behavior intermediate between static and dynamic Jahn−Teller effects at low temperature. The system is interesting as there is a low barrier between equivalent Jahn−Teller distortions in the cubic host lattice. In order to study the geometry of the Cu…

In this letter, we report on the digestion of starch, when present as a composite with Au nanoparticles (NPs), by alpha-amylase. It has been observed that the rate of digestion of free starch and that in the composite were identical. Also, the well-established iodine test could be carried out to investigate the kineti…

Metal Ion Reactive Thin Films Using Spray Electrostatic LbL Assembly

Kevin C. Krogman、Katharine F. Lyon、Paula T. Hammond2008-08-20The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

By using the spray-layer-by-layer (Spray-LbL) technique, the number of metal counterions trapped within LbL coatings is significantly increased by kinetically freezing the film short of equilibrium, potentially limiting interchain penetration and forcing chains to remain extrinsically compensated to a much greater deg…
