Transition rates and Judd–Ofelt intensity parameters of tripositive americium in a fluorozirconate glass

R. T. Brundage、M Svatos、Raitis Grinbergs1991-12-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

We have applied the Judd–Ofelt theory of f–f transition rates to the absorption and fluorescence of americium in a fluorozirconate glass. The intensity parameters calculated from infrared absorption transitions are inconsistent with the absorption and emission rates observed for the 5L6′ state at 19 960 cm−1, but are…

Dielectric properties for differently quenched PbIn0.5Nb0.5O3crystals

A. Kania、E. Rówiński1991-12-01Ferroelectrics

DTA and dielectric measurements for differently ordered and quenched PbIn0.5Nb0.5O3 crystals are presented. Two phase transitions were found in partially ordered PIN, related to antiferroelectric-paraelectric and ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transitions in the ordered and disordered regions respectively.

Hydrodynamic and electrohydrodynamic properties of the smectic CM phase in liquid crystals

Helmut R. Brand、Harald Pleiner1991-12-01Journal de Physique II

We present the hydrodynamic and electrohydrodynamic equations for the liquid crystalline smectic CM phase. This phase, which is fluid in the layers, orthogonal and optically biaxial, has recently been found experimentally in polymeric liquid crystals. We compare the macroscopic properties of the CM phase with those of…

Application of Finite Element Modeling and Analysis to the Design of Positive Pressure Oxygen Masks

Bruce H Bitterman1991-12-01OpenAlex

Abstract : This study investigated tools and techniques for performing finite element analysis of the MBU-20/P pilot's oxygen mask. The problem which was investigated was the fit of the mask to the face at Positive Pressure Breathing (PPB) pressures. Deformed geometry of the mask and reaction forces on the face were c…

Hideaki Hirai、Kazuhiro Yoshikawa、Shinya Funakawa 等 4 位作者1991-12-01Soil Science & Plant Nutrition

Characteristics of Brown Forest soils developed under different bio-climatic conditions from low to high eleyations in the Kinki District were studied with special reference to their pedogenetic processes. The Brown Forest soils at high elevations were characterized by a lower bulk density, higher capacities to adsorb…

SANS from hot‐stretched polystyrene revisited

J.R. Schroeder、Boualem Hammouda、Robert A. Bubeck 等 4 位作者1991-12-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract Small‐angle neutron scattering (SANS) has been used to investigate macromolecular orientation of uniaxially hot‐stretched partially deuterated polystyrene. Principle radii of gyration and degree of eccentricity were measured over a range of hot‐stretch temperatures, strain rates, and external draw ratios (EDR…

Clay Mineralogy, Alteration History, and Economic Geology of the Whitemud Formation, Southern Saskatchewan, Canada

Robert J. Pruett、Haydn H. Murray1991-12-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract The Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) Whitemud Formation is a potentially commercial kaolin deposit located in southern Saskatchewan and southeastern Alberta. The Whitemud Formation contains a lower kaolinitic sandstone, a middle lignite and carbonaceous shale, and an upper interbedded siltstone and claystone.…

Novel regular network polyester films from aromatic tetracarboxylic acids and ethylene glycol

Naoto Tsutsumi、Ying‐Hsien Chen、Tsuyoshi Kiyotsukuri1991-12-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A Polymer Chemistry

Abstract Novel regular network polyester films were prepared from pyromellitic (X), biphenyltetracarboxylic (U), and 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenonetetracarboxylic (W) dianhydrides and ethylene glycol (2G). Prepolymers prepared by melt polycondensation were cast from DMF solution and successively post‐polymerized at 260°C for…

Pressure dependence of the optical-absorption edge of diamond

A. Onodera、Makoto Hasegawa、Katsuhisa Furuno 等 7 位作者1991-12-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the optical-absorption edge of type-IIa diamond has been measured at room temperature to 2.3 GPa using a sapphire anvil cell. The absorption edge shifts toward higher energy at a rate of 6.0 meV/GPa, in fair agreement with the first-principles calculations of Fahy et al. [Phys. Re…

Correlation between the dielectric properties and crystallographic structure of d-serine admixtured TGS crystals

J. Stankowska、Zenon Bochyński、A. Czarnecka 等 4 位作者1991-12-01Ferroelectrics

TGS crystals including D-serine admixture at different concentrations were grown and their dielectric properties as well as crystal structure were investigated by applying the Bragg - Brentano method. D-serine admixture was found to cause nonsymmetric growth of crystals along the ferroelectric axis as well as to induc…

Masaaki Shimizu、Chris J. Stanley1991-12-01Mineralogical Magazine

Abstract Chemical compositions of goldfieldite-tetrahedrite series minerals from the Iriki mine in Japan are reported for the frst time. The compositional variations of coexisting goldfieldite [atomic proportion Te > (Sb + As + Bi)], tellurian tetrahedrite [Sb > (Te + As + Bi)], and Te-free tetrahedrite from thi…

The optical constants (the refractive index n, the absorption index k and the absorption coefficient ) of Bi2 Te3 thin films were determined in the wavelenght range of 2.5 to 10 m. The shape of the absorption edge in Bi2Te3 thin films has been determined from transmittance and reflectance measurements. The edge is of…

Origin of oxidized cellulose degradation products and mechanism of their promotion of cellobiohydrolase I biosynthesis in Trichoderma reesei

Kathy Szakmary、A. Wotawa、C. P. Kubicek1991-12-01Journal of General Microbiology

Cellobiono-1,5-lactone (CBL) induces cellulase, particularly cellobiohydrolase I (CBH I) formation in Trichoderma reesei. When used as a sole source of carbon, it promoted comparably poor growth, because (a) the δ-gluconolactone arising by the action of β-glucosidase is not metabolized by the fungus, and (b) it is a l…

Phenomenological theory of smectic-Aliquid crystals

Apichart Linhananta、D. E. Sullivan1991-12-01Physical Review A

A generalization of the Landau--de Gennes phenomenological theory of smectic-A liquid crystals is described. The theory is based on a Landau-Ginzburg free energy that includes local and nonlocal parts. The local part consists of the isotropic-Ising-model free energy and de Gennes's phenomenological free energy of the…

The agreement between experiment and theory is sometimes reasonable, but it is better during extension than during recovery. The reasons for such discrepancies are discussed. The outcome of this…
