Electromigration failure

J. R. Lloyd1991-06-01Journal of Applied Physics

Electromigration failure is modeled as a nucleation and growth process, where void nucleation is due to the generation of a nonequilibrium vacancy concentration from an electromigration induced mass flux divergence. Following nucleation, voids grow until equaling the width of the conductor, causing an open circuit. It…

Gadolinium‐labeled liposomes containing various amphiphilic Gd‐DTPA derivatives: Targeted MRI contrast enhancement agents for the liver

George W. Kabalka、M.A.F. Davis、Thalia Moss 等 8 位作者1991-06-01Magnetic Resonance in Medicine

Unique paramagnetic liposomal contrast agents were synthesized and utilized for selective augmentation of T1 MR imaging of the livers of normal Balb/c mice. A series of amphipathic gadolinium complexes, which mimic phospholipids, was incorporated into the lamella of small unilamellar liposomes such that they become an…

Electrochromic Behavior of Nickel Oxide Electrodes: I . Identification of the Colored State Using Quartz Crystal Microbalance

S. Cordoba-Torresi、C. Gabrielli、Anne Hugot‐Le Goff 等 4 位作者1991-06-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

In the present paper the quartz crystal microbalance is used as a sensitive detector of mass changes taking place during an electrochromic process. Electrochemical and electrochromic characteristics of nickel oxide electrodes strongly depend on the preparation method of the samples. Three different types of materials…

Evaluation of Release from Selected Thermosoftening Vehicles

Michael Kopcha、Nicholas G. Lordi、Kakuji Tojo1991-06-01Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology

Release of D&C Yellow No. 10 and anhydrous theophylline have been determined from a thermosoftening, hydrophilic matrix, Gelucire 50/13, incorporating a water-soluble additive, polyethylene glycol 4000. As additive level increased, release also increased. The effect of mixtures of Gelucire 50/13 (G50/13) and Gelucire…

A continuous UHF monitor for gas-insulated substations

J.S. Pearson、B.F. Hampton、A.G. Sellars1991-06-01IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation

Assessing the condition of a GIS by measuring the UHF signals generated in it by partial discharges gives warning of developing faults. The signals are taken from couplers built into the equipment. The couplers are continuously monitored using special amplifying and detection units connected in a digital optical fiber…

Cation Effects on 31 P MAS NMR Chemical Shifts of Metaphosphate Glasses

Richard K. Brow、Carol C. Phifer、Gary L. Turner 等 4 位作者1991-06-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

We have examined a series of metaphosphate glasses with 31 P magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectroscopy. Increasing the ionic potential ( Z/a ) of the modifying cation from sodium to magnesium causes a systematic change to more shielded isotropic chemical shifts with a concomitant increase…

Optical investigations on a liquid‐crystalline side‐chain polymer with biaxial nematic and biaxial smectic A phase

H. Leube、Heino Finkelmann1991-06-01Die Makromolekulare Chemie

Abstract A liquid‐crystalline side‐chain polymer with laterally incorporated naphthalene groups in the mesogenic moiety is investigated in binary mixtures with an optical uniaxial low‐molar‐mass liquid crystal. Mixtures with up to 50 mol‐% content of the monomeric liquid crystal show a biaxial nematic phase. At lower…

Fatigue of Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia: I, Fatigue Damage, Fracture Origins, and Lifetime Prediction

Shih‐Yu Liu、I‐Wei Chen1991-06-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Uniaxial tension–compression fatigue behavior of 3‐mol%‐yttria‐stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals was investigated. Hysteresis in the stress–plastic strain curve featured cumulative plastic strain and weakened elastic stiffness. Fracture statistics in terms of cycle‐to‐failure depends strongly on the maximum…

Bruce C. Bunker、R. James Kirkpatrick、Richard K. Brow 等 5 位作者1991-06-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

11 B and 27 Al magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectra of alkaline‐earth boroaluminate glasses show that the structure of these glasses are far more complicated than previously thought. The relative concentrations of 3‐ and 4‐coordinated boron vary as found by previous investigators using con…

Electrical conductivity of amorphous carbon and amorphous hydrogenated carbon

D. Dasgupta、F. Demichelis、Alberto Tagliaferro1991-06-01Philosophical Magazine B

Amorphous carbon (a-C) thin films have been prepared by r.f. magnetron sputtering of graphite targets in an Ar atmosphere and their d.c. electrical dark conductivity has been measured as a function of temperature. The results are compared with those obtained by earlier workers for a-C and hydrogenated a-C. A detailed…

Synthesis of Yttrium Aluminum Garnet by the Glycothermal Method

Masashi Inoue、Hiroyuki Otsu、Hiroshi Kominami 等 4 位作者1991-06-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of aluminum isopropoxide and yttrium acetate in 1,4‐butanediol at 300°C yielded crystalline yttrium aluminum garnet having an approximate particle size of 30 nm. No other phases were detected. The use of ethylene glycol in place of 1,4‐butanediol afforded an amorphous product.

Grain growth in a high‐purity ZnO with systematic additions of Sb 2 O 3 from 0.29 to 2.38 wt% was studied for sintering in air from 1106° to 1400°C. The results are discussed and compared with previous studies of pure ZnO and ZnO with Bi 2 O 3 additions in terms of the kinetic grain growth expression: G n – G n 0 = K…

The sintering of zinc oxide powder compacts has been investigated at constant rates of heating of 0.5° to 15°C/min. For samples with the same initial relative density (0.50), the temperature derivative of the densification strain versus density fits within a single, relatively narrow band. At low temperatures the dens…
