Raman scattering in ordered and disordered perovskite type crystals

G. A. Smolensky、I. G. Siny、R. V. Pisarev 等 4 位作者1976-01-01Ferroelectrics

Raman scattering from mixed ordered and disordered crystals with perovskite structure has been investigated. In the paraelectric phase of the ordered crystal first-order lines were observed with symmetry properties forbidden for an ideal perovskite structure. Also, Raman line in the high frequency region is attributed…

Relation between Drape Coefficients and Mechanical Properties of Fabrics

Harumi Morooka、Masako Niwa1976-01-01Journal of the Textile Machinery Society of Japan

In this paper, drape coefficients and mechanical properties of 138 samples of woven fabrics are measured, and the relation between them is analyzed by means of residual-regression method. A linear equation by which the drape coefficient can be calculated from the mechanical properties is presented. As a result, it is s…

Rhombohedral distortion in highly magnetostrictive Laves phase compounds

A. E. Clark、J. R. Cullen、O.D. McMasters 等 4 位作者1976-01-01AIP conference proceedings

A model is presented which produces a magnetostrictively driven rhombohedral distortion (λ111) in cubic diamond‐like structures. No tetragonal magnetostrictive distortion (λ100) is allowed, which is consistent with the experimental observation, λ111≫λ100. From x‐ray and single crystal measurements we find ‖λ111/λ100‖≳…

Secondary nucleation of two fast growth systems in a mixed suspension crystallizer: Magnesium sulfate and citric acid water systems

Subhas K. Sikdar、Alan D. Randolph1976-01-01AIChE Journal

Abstract Secondary nucleation of magnesium sulfate and citric acid was studied in a seeded back mixed crystallizer. The MSMPR type of exponential population density distribution was obtained above 8 μm size in quasi steady state operation. Growth rates were satisfactorily correlated with supersaturation. Nucleation ra…

Nematic Liquid Crystals Containing Pyridine and Benzazole Rings

A. I. Pavluchenko、Н. И. Смирнова、В. В. Титов 等 5 位作者1976-01-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

The liquid crystalline 6-alkoxynicotinic acids were prepared, and their transition temperatures measured. The isomeric 5-alkoxypicolinic acids are not mesomorphic. A series of 2, 6- and 2,5-disubstituted benzazoles were also synthesized. The effects of a molecule geometry, central linkages and a heteroatom on the meso…

Infrared spectroscopic characterization of the α-alumina surface

C. Morterra、G. Ghiotti、Edoardo Garrone 等 4 位作者1976-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions 1 Physical Chemistry in Condensed Phases

Several α-Al2O3 specimens were prepared by thermal treatment of pure transition aluminas, already in the form of i.r. pellets. When the starting material is a high external area phase, the resulting sample is still suitable for i.r. work. In particular two preparations are considered, which only differ in the number o…

Temperature dependence of the magnetic-moment distribution around impurities in iron

H. R. Child、J. W. Cable1976-01-01Physical review. B, Solid state

We have made neutron diffuse-scattering measurements of the magnetic-moment distribution around impurities in Fe as a function of temperature in an attempt to obtain information regarding the range of the exchange interactions. The measurements were made on Fe-based alloys containing 2-3 at.% of Si, Ge, Ti, V, Mn, Co,…

Phase equilibria in systems composed of an aliphatic and an aromatic hydrocarbon and sulpholane

Raphaël M. De Fré、Lucien A. Verhoeye1976-01-01Journal of Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology

Abstract Ternary liquid‐liquid equilibria of the type aromatic + non‐aromatic + sulpholane were studied. The systems cyclohexane + benzene + sulpholane, 1‐hexene + benzene + sulpholane, hexane + benzene + sulpholane and heptane + toluene + sulpholane were experimentally determined at 25, 50, 75 and 100°C. The binary v…

Charge transfer in mixed-valence solids. Part VIII. Contribution of valence delocalisation to the ferromagnetism of Prussian Blue

Bryan Mayoh、P. Day1976-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

The contribution of mixed-valence electron delocalisation to the ferromagnetic exchange between the iron(III) ions in Prussian Blue {FeIII4[eII(CN)6]3·14H2O} has been estimated theoretically. Agreement between the calculated and observed values of the Curie temperature is quite good.

Numerical Calculation of Psychrometric Properties in SI Units

Luther R. Wilhelm1976-01-01Transactions of the ASAE

ABSTRACT THREE computer subroutines for numerical calculation of psychrometric properties are discussed. Input parameters required are wet- and dry-bulb temperatures, dew point and dry-bulb temperatures, or relative humidity and dry-bulb temperature. All results are in SI units. Restrictions on the use of certain rela…

On a metastable miscibility gap in γ-Mn-Cu alloys and the origin of their high damping capacity

J.M. Vitek、Hans Warlimont1976-01-01Metal Science

A metastable miscibility gap has been found which explains the decomposition behaviour of γ-Mn-Cu alloys. Hardness measurements as well as results of other authors were used to outline the boundaries of the two-phase region. Electron microscopy provided direct evidence for the phase separation prior to α-Mn precipitat…

The Liquid Crystal Properties of Some Cyano-Substituted Aryl Esters

David Coates、G. W. Gray1976-01-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

Forty-five aryl esters (R-Ar-CO.O-Ar′-CN) containing terminal cyano and R = alkyl or alkoxy substituents were prepared. The aryl moieties of the esters were either 1,4-phenylene, 2,6-naphthylene or 4,4′-biphenylene. All combinations of these aryl groups were examined and the liquid crystal properties are compared with…

Twinning by merohedry and X-ray crystal structure determination

M. Catti、Giovanni Ferraris1976-01-01Acta Crystallographica Section A

Twins by merohedry can be usefully divided in two classes. Class I: the twin operation is contained in the Laue symmetry of the crystal and twin-related reflexions have equal intensities; in this case the set of intensities collected from a twin is indistinguishable from that collected on a single crystal. Class II: a…

Formation of Cavities From Nondeformable Second-Phase Particles in Low Temperature Ductile Fracture

A. S. Argon1976-01-01Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology

Limiting solutions are discussed for elastic-plastic deformation around rigid particles of both equiaxed and greatly elongated shapes. It is shown that if the matrix can be characterized as a rigid nonhardening continuum the stress concentration at the particle interface and interior is less than two for either equiax…

Applications of vanadium-51 and phosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to the study of iso- and hetero-polyvanadates

Stephen E. O’Donnell、Michael T. Pope1976-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

Vanadium-51 n.m.r. spectra of a number of iso- and hetero-polyvanadate anions are reported. Spectra of solutions containing [V10O28]6–(pH 6.5–3.5) are consistent with the known solid-state structure of this anion. The [VO2]+ cation in aqueous solution almost certainly has an octahedral cis-dioxo-structure as its n.m.r…
