Masayuki Fujimoto、W. D. Kingery1985-04-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The microstructure of strontium titanate internal boundary layer capacitors at various stages in their processing was studied by transmission electron microscopy of rapidly quenched and normally cooled samples. Compositions containing excess TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , and SiO 2 have a completely wetting liquid phase at the si…

Abstract The gas permeabilities of three polyacetylene films, prepared from poly[1‐(trimethylsilyl)‐1‐propyne], poly( tert ‐butylacetylene), and poly(1‐chloro‐2‐phenylacetylene), were studied. Although depending on conditions of polymerization and membrane preparation, typical permeability coefficients P of the polyme…

Effective equations for wave propagation in bubbly liquids

Russel E. Caflisch、Michael J. Miksis、George Papanicolaou 等 4 位作者1985-04-01OpenAlex

We derive a system of effective equations for wave propagation in a bubbly liquid. Starting from a microscopic description, we obtain the effective equations by using Foldy's approximation in a nonlinear setting. We discuss in detail the range of validity of the effective equations as well as some of their properties.

The intracellular degradation of poly(ε‐caprolactone)

Stephen Woodward、P. S. Brewer、Farhad Moatamed 等 5 位作者1985-04-01OpenAlex

Poly(epsilon-caprolactone) [PEC], a biodegradable aliphatic polyester, undergoes a two-stage degradation process: The first lengthy phase involves nonenzymatic hydrolytic cleavage of ester groups, the second phase beginning when the polymer is more highly crystalline, and of low molecular weight. The cellular events o…

Mechanisms of Foam Flow in Porous Media: Apparent Viscosity in Smooth Capillaries

George J. Hirasaki、J. B. Lawson1985-04-01OpenAlex

Abstract The apparent viscosity of foam flowing through smooth capillaries was measured experimentally, and a mathematical model was developed. Foam texture (a measure of bubble volume) is a key parameter in determining the following properties of foam flowing through a capillary: (1) whether the foam exists as bulk f…

Some Properties of Ultra Clean Spring Steel

Makoto Saitô、Yukio Itô1985-03-31Transactions of Japan Society of Spring Engineers

Processing, Structure and Properties of Block Copolymers

M. J. Folkes1985-03-31Medical Entomology and Zoology

Block copolymers represent an important class of multi-phase material, which have received very widespread attention, particularly since their successful commercial development in the mid-1960s. Much of the interest in these polymers has arisen because of their rather remarkable micro phase morphology and, hence, they…

Ground Water as a Silica Source for Diatom Production in a Precipitation-Dominated Lake

James P. Hurley、David E. Armstrong、Galen J. Kenoyer 等 4 位作者1985-03-29Science

The short-term, seasonal input of ground water to a small, precipitation-dominated oligotrophic lake in northern Wisconsin amounts to less than 10 percent of the annual water budget of the lake but accounts for nearly all the external silica loading. Silica is a necessary nutrient for diatoms. A large spring diatom bl…

Alain Hugi、Lothar Helm、André E. Merbach1985-03-27Helvetica Chimica Acta

Abstract Water exchange on hexaaquavanadium (III) has been studied as a function of temperature (255 to 413 K) and pressure (up to 250 MPa, at several temperatures) by 17 O‐NMR spectroscopy at 8.13 and 27.11 MHz. The samples contained V 3+ (0.30–1.53 m), H + (0.19–2.25 m) and 17 O‐enriched (10–20%) H 2 O. The trifluor…

Effect of Silicon on the Corrosion Resistance of Iron in Sulfuric Acid

Brian J. Saldanha、Michael A. Streicher1985-03-25OpenAlex

Abstract Additions of silicon to iron-base alloys have, in certain cases, produced significant improvements in resistance to general corrosion in a variety of acids, to chloride pitting resistance and to chloride stress corrosion cracking. The largest effect is produced by addition of 14.5% Si to iron, which make this…
