Systems for Tire Cord-Rubber Adhesion

Thomas S. Solomon1985-07-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract The last comprehensive review of tire-cord adhesion to rubber was reported by T. Takeyama and J. Matsui in Rubber Reviews for 1969. They covered this subject in depth from its scientific beginnings and dealt mostly with rayon, nylon, and polyester tire-cord adhesion. The objective of this present review will…

New approach to phase and modulation resolved spectra

Enrico Gratton、David M. Jameson1985-07-01Analytical Chemistry

Time domain fluorescence spectrometry offers a versatile and powerful approach to the analysis of heterogeneous emitting systems. In this paper we describe a new approach, based on software, to the acquisition of phase and modulation resolved spectra. Mixtures of fluorophores with different lifetimes can be analyzed i…

Effects of various factors on the formation of high molecular weight polyamic acid

Chin‐Ping Yang、Sheng‐Huei Hsiao1985-07-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The reaction of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and aromatic diamine in an aprotic solvent such as dimethylacetamide (DMAc) gives a solution of poly(amic acid). The effects of certain variables on the polymerization and some additives on the stability and imidization of the poly(amic acid)s were studied. It w…

Periodic structures induced by director reorientation in the lyotropic nematic phase of disodium cromoglycate–water

Hui Yu、M. R. Kuzma、M. San Miguel 等 4 位作者1985-07-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

A nonequilibrium periodic structure is induced by a magnetic field H applied to an aligned lyotropic uniaxial nematic phase of disodium cromoglycate–water. A series of parallel lines perpendicular to H represents boundaries between 180° out-of-phase regions of director reorientation. The distance between the lines dec…

The Finite-Element Method for Finding Modes of Dielectric-Loaded Cavities (Short Papers)

J.P. Webb1985-07-01IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques

A three-dimensional high-order finite-element scheme is proposed for finding the modes of dielectric-loaded cavities of arbitrary shape. New light is shed on the presence of spurious solutions. Results for an empty rectangular box are compared with exact solutions, A loaded rectangular box is also analyzed.

Effect of Trace Elements on Etching of Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor Foil

K. Arai、T. Suzuki、Taisuke Atsumi1985-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

An investigation was made as to the effect of trace impurities, particularly bismuth and boron, on etching morphology and capacitance of aluminum electrolytic capacitor foil. It was found that as little as 2 wt‐ppm bismuth in foil strongly accelerated surface etching, inhibited tunneling, and consequently lowered capa…

Polymer collapse in dilute solution: Equilibrium and dynamical aspects

Giuseppe Allegra、Fabio Ganazzoli1985-07-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The pairwise, long-range attractions experienced by a polymer chain in poor solvent, are resisted by the screened (two-body) and by the three-body interactions. While the former are due to the nonzero effective chain thickness and are especially important for relatively short chains, the latter arise from interdepende…

Lubrication Theory at Arbitrary Knudsen Number

Roger F. Gans1985-07-01Journal of Tribology

It is demonstrated that the slip flow Reynolds equations for ultra low clearance gas bearings can be derived from kinetic theory by an approximation scheme appropriate for arbitrary Knudsen numbers. Thus the usefulness of the slip flow Reynolds equation is extended to cases where it would not be expected to hold.

The β dielectric relaxation in some methacrylate polymers

José Luís Gómez Ribelles、Ricardo Díaz Calleja1985-07-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract Dielectric results at frequencies between 6 × 10 −4 and 10 5 Hz are given for the β relaxation region of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA), poly(butyl methacrylate) (PBMA), and poly(isobutyl methacrylate) (PisoBMA). Apparent activation energies and relaxation strengths are calc…

The effect of stress on the magnetization of mild steel at moderate field strengths

R. Langman1985-07-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

Measurements are presented of the magnetization of mild steel, at field strengths between 100 A/m and 1200 A/m, for hysteretic and anhysteretic conditions. Magnetization was parallel or perpendicular to an applied uniaxial stress. The experimental results showed that tension parallel to the field or compression perpen…

Percolation properties of granular elastic networks in two dimensions

Shechao Feng1985-07-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The percolation properties of two-dimensional rotationally invariant granular random elastic networks (the disk model) are studied by use of both numerical simulations and finite-size scaling analysis. For the case of normal--empty-bond random networks, an exponent f\ensuremath{\approxeq}3.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{…

X-ray dichroism and anomalous scattering of potassium tetrachloroplatinate(II)

David H. Templeton、L. K. Templeton1985-07-01Acta Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography

X-ray dichroism is observed at the L absorption edges of Pt in K2PtCl4, and the anomalous scattering tensor for Pt in this square-planar complex is measured in experiments with linearly polarized synchrotron radiation. For special azimuthal settings the diffraction intensities of some reflections depend on only one or…

Osmotic regulation of L-proline transport in Salmonella typhimurium

V J Dunlap、László N. Csonka1985-07-01Journal of Bacteriology

The transport of proline is important for the adaptation of Salmonella typhimurium to osmotic stress because exogenous proline permits the growth of the organism in media of elevated osmotic strength that would otherwise be toxic. Measurements of the rate of [3H]proline transport in S. typhimurium indicated that the o…

A mutation at the ATP-binding site of pp60v-src abolishes kinase activity, transformation, and tumorigenicity.

Mark A. Snyder、J. Michael Bishop、John P. McGrath 等 4 位作者1985-07-01Molecular and Cellular Biology

We constructed a mutant, called RSV-SF2, at the ATP-binding site of pp60v-src. In this mutant, lysine-295 is replaced with methionine. SF2 pp60v-src was found to have a half-life similar to that of wild-type pp60v-src and was localized in the membranous fraction of the cell. Rat cells expressing SF2 pp60v-src were mor…

Phosphate‐binding sequences in nucleotide‐binding proteins

W. Möller、Reinout Amons1985-07-01FEBS Letters

In the three-dimensional model of adenylate kinase, the phosphate-binding site for AMP and ATP has been identified [Pai, E.F. et al. (1977) J. Mol. Biol. 114, 37--45]. In this region one can distinguish a sequence glycine XXXX glycinelysine. The same sequence is found in many other mononucleotide-binding proteins incl…
