A study has been made of the factors that affect or bring about the corrosion of the zinc electrode in a silver‐zinc‐alkali cell. Cells containing 30% potassium hydroxide as electrolyte were used and kept at room temperature. Special attention was centered on open circuit or stand conditions. This corrosion is affecte…

A new method of preparing cadmium niobate was demonstrated. This method involved the anodic spark reaction of cadmium in a niobate solution and crystallization of the anode product by heating at 650°C. The crystallized anode product was made into a solid wafer by pressing it at 350,000 psi, and electrical measurements…

Phase equilibrium data have been obtained for compositions in the ternary system lying near the compound, particularly those on the orthophosphate join. It was found that "gamma zinc orthophosphate" is a ternary solid solution which has a region of stability on the orthophosphate join ranging from about 5 to about 25…

In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; me…

The variation of line width (Delta H) and effective g factor (g/sub eff/) with cobalt content and with temperature is studied in a series of ferrites of composition Ni/sub 1- alpha/Co/sub alpha/Mn/sub 0.02/Fe/sub 1.9/O/sub 4+-/. Here alpha lies between 0 and 0.09; temperatures range from 20° to 340° C. A minimum in De…

Experiments and results on the interaction of tantalum with O 2 , N 2 , and H 2 are presented. The {100} is shown to be the habit plane of the segregation of the reaction products which appear to be Ta 2 O 5 , TaN , and β TaH , respectively. The role of the gas‐metal interaction on the fracture behavior of single crys…

The usual method of evaluating the harmonic components of the m.m.f. wave of a polyphase winding is to perform a Fourier analysis. This can, however, be a long and tedious process, especially for stepped waveforms, and further it is common practice to perform the analysis for two limiting current-vector positions, to…

A new method is proposed for the determination of energies of activation of oxidation of metals and alloys. Metals are oxidized under conditions of linearly increasing temperature, and the activation energy may be determined from one single oxidation run. In addition the method also gives the approximate temperature r…

All single crystals of MgO which have been available contain iron-group impurities in quantities easily detectable by e.s.r. absorption. For a given impurity, the fractions in the di- and tri-valent states depend in part upon the past heat treatment and upon the concentrations of the other impurities. Energetic radiat…
