Bioplastics from soy protein and biodegradable polyester amide with plasticizers including glycerol, d -sorbitol, and blends of these two have been made using extrusion and injection molding. The thermal properties, mechanical properties, and morphologies of the soy-based bioplastics were evaluated with a dynamic mech…

Abstract A highly efficient and enantioselective organocatalyst, imidazolidin‐4‐one, has been successfully immobilized on siliceous MCF and polymer‐coated MCF. The resulting heterogenized catalyst demonstrated excellent catalytic performance and recyclability for Friedel–Crafts alkylation and Diels–Alder cycloaddition…

We focus on the development of new silicate phosphors for a white LED. In the europium doped silicate system, four LED phosphor candidates-Li 2 SrSiO 4 :Eu 2+ , Ba 9 Sc 2 Si 6 O 24 :Eu 2+ , Ca 3 Si 2 O 7 :Eu 2+ and Ba 2 MgSi 2 O 7 :Eu 2+ were found. Luminescent properties under near UV and visible excitation were inve…

One major drawback associated with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in the liquid phase is their hydrophobicity-induced aggregation, which prevents utilization of the unique physical and chemical properties of single SWNTs. Recently it has been found that lysophospholipids, or single-tailed phospholipids, can re…

In the environmental technology industry alone, nanomaterials will enable new means of reducing the production of industrial wastes, using resources more sparingly, remediating industrial contamination, providing potable water, and improving the efficiency of energy production. This paper discusses three new kinds of…

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), owing to their exceptionally high thermal conductivity, have a potential to be employed in micro- and optoelectronic devices for integrated circuit (IC) cooling. In this study we describe a photothermal metrology intended to evaluate the thermal conductivity of a vertically aligned CNT array (…

Abstract Using a very low concentration of potassium persulfate as initiator, acrylamide could be efficiently grafted onto potato starch under microwave irradiation and for the grafting O 2 removal from the reaction vessel was not required. Under optimal conditions, grafting and efficiency observed were 160% and 89%,…

The direct intratumoral (i.t.) injection of anticancer agents has been evaluated extensively in the past few decades. Thus far, however, it has failed to become established as an alternative route of administration in routine clinical practice. In the present report, the impact of i.t. injection on the biodistribution…

Abstract The aim of this paper is to summarise recent progress in the growth of small grain‐sized Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) diamond often called nanocrystalline diamond, i.e., diamond with grains typically smaller than 500 nm. Nanocrystalline (NCD) and Ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) films are new materials…

Two different fucoxanthin-chlorophyll protein complexes (FCP) were purified from the centric diatom Cyclotella meneghiniana and characterized with regard to their polypeptide and pigment composition. Whereas the oligomeric FCPb complex is most probably composed of fcp5 gene products, the trimeric FCPa has subunits enc…

We demonstrate all-optical wavelength conversion in AS2S3chalcogenide glass rib waveguides, with 6 ps pulses over a 10 nm wavelength range near 1550 nm. Frequency resolved optical gating (FROG) measurements show good converted pulse integrity in amplitude and phase in the frequency and time domains.

When two biopolymers are mixed together, they will normally phase separate to give two distinct phases. If the biopolymers are gelled during this phase separation, for instance by reducing the temperature, one phase is trapped in this other one and an emulsion-like composite structure is obtained. In this study, we in…
