Wood pulp reinforced thermoplastic starch composites

Antônio J. F. Carvalho、A.A.S. Curvelo、José Augusto Marcondes Agnelli2002-01-01International Journal of Polymeric Materials

Thermoplastic starch is potentially a low cost alternative biodegradable plastic that is readily available material, but owing to its poor mechanical properties and high susceptibility to water, its actual replacement of the polymers currently in use is limited. In this study we investigated the employment of wood pul…

Cr(VI) and Ce(III) Inhibition of Oxygen Reduction on Copper

M. Kendig、S. Jeanjaquet2002-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Oxygen reduction on Cu in near-neutral 5% NaCl and its subsequent inhibition by Cr(VI) and Ce(III) compounds has been examined using stationary and rotating Cu electrodes. The results show that Cr(VI) is a highly efficient inhibitor not matched by comparable concentrations of Ce(III) in its effect. Results suggest ( i…

Synthesis and Corrosion Resistance of High-Silica Zeolite MTW, BEA, and MFI Coatings on Steel and Aluminum

Anupam Mitra、Zhengbao Wang、Tiegang Cao 等 6 位作者2002-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

High-silica zeolite with (MTW), Beta with (BEA), and ZSM-5 with (MFI) coatings were synthesized by hydrothermal crystallization without seeding using a new two-silica method on Al-alloy (Al-2024-T3 and Al-6061-T4) and stainless steel (SS-304). The pure-silica MTW and BEA coatings synthesized in this study have not bee…

Structure and Ferroelectricity of RMn 2 O 5

Isao Kagomiya、Kay Kohn、Tomohiro Uchiyama2002-01-01Ferroelectrics

We studied systematically the crystal structure of simultaneously ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic RMn 2 O 5 (R = Pr-Lu and Y, except Tm) oxides, based on powder X-ray diffraction and Rietveld analysis. We propose a simple picture of the change of the structure with the size of a rare earth ion.

Novel Hexagonal Structure of Ultra-High Strength Magnesium-Based Alloys

Akihisa Inoue、Mitsuhide Matsushita、Yoshihito Kawamura 等 6 位作者2002-01-01MATERIALS TRANSACTIONS

A magnesium (Mg) solid solution with a novel long periodic hexagonal structure was formed for a Mg97Zn1Y2 (at%) alloy in a rod form prepared by extrusion of atomized powders at 573 K as well as in a melt-spun ribbon form. The novel structure of the rod alloy had an ABACAB-type six layered packing with lattice paramete…

Ratiometric probes for hydrogencarbonate analysis in intracellular or extracellular environments using europium luminescence

Yann Bretonnière、Martin J. Cann、David Parker 等 4 位作者2002-01-01Chemical Communications

A series of six, cationic, zwitterionic and anionic Eu complexes has been examined for the analysis of hydrogencarbonate concentration in the intracellular and extracellular ranges; an anionic complex incorporating three glutarate residues and a sensitising acridone chromophore (lambda exc = 410 nm) exhibits a 69% cha…

Polyester layered silicate nanohybrids by controlled grafting polymerization

Bénédicte Lepoittevin、Nadège Pantoustier、Michaël Alexandre 等 6 位作者2002-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) layered silicate nanohybrids were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone according to a well-controlled coordination–insertion mechanism. Montmorillonites were surface-modified by non functional (trimethylhexadecylammonium) and hydroxy functional alkylammonium cations,…

Localized Corrosion Growth Kinetics in AA2024 Alloys

Weilong Zhang、G. S. Frankel2002-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The kinetics of localized corrosion in AA2024 alloys were studied using the foil penetration technique. The growth kinetics for localized corrosion in AA2024-T3 exhibited a strong anisotropy, being slower in the short transverse or plate through-thickness direction than in either the longitudinal or long transverse di…

Fully relativistic density functional calculations on hydroxylated actinide oxide surfaces

J. C. Boettger、Asok Ray2002-01-01International Journal of Quantum Chemistry

Abstract The linear combinations of Gaussian‐type orbitals–fitting function (LCGTO‐FF) method has been used to investigate the cohesive properties of three fluorite structure actinide oxides (ThO 2 , UO 2 , and PuO 2 ), and their clean and hydroxylated (111) surfaces, within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA…

Construction of stable anionic liposome-plasmid particles using the heating method: a preliminary investigation.

M. R. Mozafari、Celia J. Reed、Chris Rostron 等 5 位作者2002-01-01PubMed

Recent advances in liposome technology have resulted in the production of effective drug delivery formulations, although toxicity concerns remain. In order to overcome this problem we prepared anionic liposomes without using any volatile organic solvent or detergent. Liposomes prepared by this heating method (HM-lipos…

Potentiodynamically Deposited Polyaniline on Stainless Steel

K. Rajendra Prasad、N. Munichandraiah2002-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Polyaniline (PANI) has been studied as an active material for electrochemical capacitors. Polymerization of aniline to PANI has been carried out potentiodynamically on a stainless steel (SS) substrate, instead of Pt-based substrates generally employed for this application. The PANI/SS electrodes have been evaluated by…

Characterization of the Free‐Carbon Phase in Precursor‐Derived Si‐C‐N Ceramics: I, Spectroscopic Methods

Stephan Traßl、Günter Motz、E. A. Rössler 等 4 位作者2002-01-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Polyvinylsilazane, as a precursor for Si‐C‐N ceramics, was prepared by ammonolysis of functionalized chlorosilanes. Pyrolysis under inert atmospheres at T p = 1000°C led to an amorphous Si‐C‐N‐(H) ceramic. Further heat treatment caused the transformation to the thermodynamically stable crystalline phase assemblage. Th…

László Burai、Rosario Scopelliti、Éva Tóth2002-01-01Chemical Communications

The cryptate [EuII(2.2.2)(H2O)2]2+ displays several interesting features with respect to pO2 responsive MRI contrast agent applications: it is relatively stable against oxidation, it has two inner sphere water molecules, and the water exchange and electron spin relaxation rates are in the optimal range to attain high…
