We investigated experimentally the effect of the electron-beam irradiation on the level of the low-frequency 1/f noise in graphene devices. It was found that 1/f noise in graphene reduces with increasing concentration of defects induced by irradiation. The increased amount of structural disorder in graphene under irra…

Magnesium–yttrium alloys show significantly improved room temperature ductility when compared with pure Mg. We study this interesting phenomenon theoretically at the atomic scale employing quantum-mechanical (so-called ab initio ) and atomistic modeling methods. Specifically, we have calculated generalized stacking fa…

Localized states in the conserved Swift-Hohenberg equation with cubic nonlinearity

Uwe Thiele、Andrew J. Archer、Mark J. Robbins 等 5 位作者2013-04-15Physical Review E

The conserved Swift-Hohenberg equation with cubic nonlinearity provides the simplest microscopic description of the thermodynamic transition from a fluid state to a crystalline state. The resulting phase field crystal model describes a variety of spatially localized structures, in addition to different spatially exten…

Graphene geometric diodes for terahertz rectennas

Zixu Zhu、Saumil Joshi、Sachit Grover 等 4 位作者2013-04-15Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

We demonstrate a new thin-film graphene diode called a geometric diode that relies on geometric asymmetry to provide rectification at 28 THz. The geometric diode is coupled to an optical antenna to form a rectenna that rectifies incoming radiation. This is the first reported graphene-based antenna-coupled diode workin…

We report an effective way to fabricate mechanically strong and multifunctional polyimide (PI) nanocomposites using aminophenyl functionalized graphene nanosheet (APGNS). APGNS was successfully obtained through a diazonium salt reaction. PI composites with different loading of APGNS were prepared by in situ polymeriza…

Optimal interface doping at La2/3Sr1/3MnO3/SrTiO3(001) heterojunctions for spintronic applications

C. Wang、Nataša Stojić、N. Binggeli2013-04-15Applied Physics Letters

We examine, by means of ab initio pseudopotential calculations, La2/3Sr1/3MnO3/SrTiO3 (LSMO/STO) heterojunctions in which one unit layer of La1−xSrxMnO3 (with 0<x<1) is inserted at the interface. The optimal interlayer doping x for a robust interface ferromagnetism is investigated by considering the ener…

Suppression of magnetic phase separation in epitaxial SrCoOX films

F. J. Rueckert、Yuefeng Nie、C. Abughayada 等 9 位作者2013-04-15Applied Physics Letters

Using pulsed laser deposition and a unique fast quenching method, we have prepared SrCoOx epitaxial films on SiTiO3 substrates. As electrochemical oxidation increases the oxygen content from x = 2.75 to 3.0, the films tend to favor the discrete magnetic phases seen in bulk samples for the homologous series SrCoO(3−n/8…
