Surfactant‐Assisted Synthesis of Co‐ and Li‐Doped ZnO Nanocrystalline Samples Showing Room‐Temperature Ferromagnetism

O. D. Jayakumar、I.K. Gopalakrishnan、S.K. Kulshreshtha2006-06-21Advanced Materials

Robust room-temperature ferromagnetism is shown in Zn0.85Co0.05Li0.10O nanocrystals. The studies show that the RT ferromagnetism observed in the Zn0.85Co0.05Li0.10O samples is intrinsic in nature. The figure illustrates (schematically) the effect of surfactant treatment in activating the ferromagnetism.

Activation of Oxygen on Gold/Alumina Catalysts: In Situ High‐Energy‐Resolution Fluorescence and Time‐Resolved X‐ray Spectroscopy

Jeroen A. van Bokhoven、Catherine Louis、Jeffrey T. Miller 等 6 位作者2006-06-21Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Gold is not so inert after all! X-ray absorption spectroscopy was used to probe the activation of O2 and its reaction with CO over an Au/Al2O3 catalyst. The catalytic activity of small gold particles in the oxidation of CO arises from their ability to transfer charge to oxygen (see picture).

Electric-Field-Assisted Assembly of Perpendicularly Oriented Nanorod Superlattices

Kevin M. Ryan、Alex Mastroianni、Kimani A. Stancil 等 5 位作者2006-06-21OpenAlex

We observe the assembly of CdS nanorod superlattices by the combination of a DC electric field and solvent evaporation. In each electric-field (1 V/microm) assisted assembly, CdS nanorods (5 nm x 30 nm) suspended initially in toluene were observed to align perpendicular to the substrate. Azimuthal alignment along the…

Electronic states and Landau levels in graphene stacks

F. Guinea、A. H. Castro Neto、N. M. R. Peres2006-06-21arXiv

We analyze, within a minimal model that allows analytical calculations, the electronic structure and Landau levels of graphene multilayers with different stacking orders. We find, among other results, that electrostatic effects can induce a strongly divergent density of states in bilayers and trilayers, reminiscent of…

Synthesis and Luminescent Characteristics of Sr2Ga2S5:Eu2+ Yellow Phosphor for LEDs

Jae‐Myung Kim2006-06-20Journal of the Korean Chemical Society

We report on investigation of photoalignment of cholesteric liquid crystal on phenylone-based photosensitive material as aligning layer. We found that reflective and electro-optical characteristics of cholesteric cells strongly depended on the dose of irradiation of a photoaligning layer with polarized UV light. Irrad…

Detecting and overcoming hemihedral twinning during the MIR structure determination of Rna1p

R.C. Hillig、Louis Renault2006-06-20Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography

The structure of Rna1p was originally solved to 2.7 A resolution by MIRAS from crystals with partial hemihedral twinning in space group I4(1) [Hillig et al. (1999), Mol. Cell, 3, 781-791] by finding a low-twinned native crystal (twin fraction alpha=0.06) and after twin correction of all data sets. Rna1p crystals have…

Effect of Bonding Temperature on the Precipitation of δ Phase in Diffusion Bonded Inconel 718 Joints

Guoge Zhang、R. S. Chandel、Seow Hong Pheow 等 4 位作者2006-06-20Materials and Manufacturing Processes

Precipitation of δ phase during solid-state diffusion bonding of Inconel alloy 718 to itself was studied in the present investigation. The joining was carried out from 910 to 1060°C, in steps of 30°C, with time and pressure fixed at 60 min and 32 MPa, respectively. In the joint bonded at 910°C, transforming of γ″ to δ…

Porous cobalt nanowall arrays have been prepared by electrochemical deposition of mono-precursor [Co(NH(3))(5)Cl]Cl(2) on copper substrates. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Barret-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) investigations of the surface properties indicate that the resulting porous nanomaterials possess high surface area a…

Role of disorder in the Mott-Hubbard transition

Ki‐Seok Kim2006-06-20Physical Review B

We investigate the role of disorder in the Mott-Hubbard transition based on the slave-rotor representation of the Hubbard model, where an electron is decomposed into a fermionic spinon for a spin degree of freedom and a bosonic rotor (chargon) for a charge degree of freedom. In the absence of disorder, the Mott-Hubbar…

We have developed a new guest-host reflective display using a dye-doped dual-frequency liquid crystal (DFLC) gel. By combining dye absorption and maximal light scattering, the display is polarization independent and exhibits a high contrast (∼ 230:1). The high reflectivity (R ∼ 50%) is because of the vertical aligned…

Transient Absorption Spectra and Dynamics of InSe Nanoparticles

Shuming Yang、David F. Kelley2006-06-20The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Time-resolved fluorescence and transient absorption results have been obtained for small (approximately 3 nm) and large (approximately 5-8 nm) InSe nanoparticles in room-temperature solutions. The large particles are nonfluorescent, indicating that the conduction band is at M and the optical transition is forbidden. F…

Yuk Wai Tang、Jun Wang、Xiao Cheng Zeng2006-06-20The Journal of Chemical Physics

Using the superheating method [Luo et al., Phys. Rev. B68, 134206 (2003)], we deployed classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation to compute solid-liquid interfacial tension of silicon. Effect of crystal freezing and small-molecule binding on internal cavity size in a large protein: X-ray and docking studies of lipoxygenase at ambient and low temperature at 2.0 Å resolution

Flash-freezing is a technique that is commonly used nowadays to collect diffraction data for X-ray structural analysis. It can affect both the crystal and molecular structure and the molecule's surface, as well as the internal cavities. X-ray structural data often serve as a template for the protein receptor in dockin…
