Mapping of ion beam induced current changes in FinFETs

C. D. Weis、A. Schuh、A. Batra 等 11 位作者2008-09-12arXiv

We report on progress in ion placement into silicon devices with scanning probe alignment. The device is imaged with a scanning force microscope (SFM) and an aligned argon beam (20 keV, 36 keV) is scanned over the transistor surface. Holes in the lever of the SFM tip collimate the argon beam to sizes of 1.6 um and 100…

Correlation between Resistance and Field Emission Performance of Individual ZnO One-Dimensional Nanostructures

Juncong She、Zhiming Xiao、Yuhua Yang 等 7 位作者2008-09-12ACS Nano

Both electrical and field emission measurements were carried out to study the correlation between resistance and field emission performance of individual one-dimensional (1D) ZnO nanostructures. Three types of 1D ZnO nanostructures were investigated (i.e., agave-like shape, pencil-like shape, and hierarchical structur…

Inelastic scattering in a monolayer graphene sheet: A weak-localization study

Dong‐Keun Ki、Dongchan Jeong、Jaehyun Choi 等 5 位作者2008-09-12Physical Review B

Charge carriers in a graphene sheet, a single layer of graphite, exhibit distinct characteristics from those in other two-dimensional electronic systems because of their chiral nature. In this paper, we focus on the observation of weak localization in a graphene sheet exfoliated from a piece of natural graphite and na…

A hybrid approach to Fermi operator expansion

Michele Ceriotti、Thomas D. Kühne、Michele Parrinello2008-09-12arXiv

In a recent paper we have suggested that the finite temperature density matrix can be computed efficiently by a combination of polynomial expansion and iterative inversion techniques. We present here significant improvements over this scheme. The original complex-valued formalism is turned into a purely real one. In a…

Spin-Diffusion Lengths in Dilute Cu(Ge) and Ag(Sn) Alloys

Q. Fowler、B. Richard、A. Sharma 等 7 位作者2008-09-12arXiv

We use current-perpendicular-to-plane (CPP) exchange-biased spin-valves to directly measure spin diffusion lengths lsf for N = Cu(2.1 at.%Ge) and Ag(3.6 at.%Sn) alloys. We find lsf(Cu2%Ge)) = 117+10-6 nm and lsf(Ag4%Sn)= 39 +/- 3 nm. The good agreement of this lsf(Cu2%Ge) with the value lsf(Cu2%Ge) = 121 +/- 10 nm der…

Geometric dephasing-limited Hanle effect in long-distance lateral silicon spin transport devices

Biqin Huang、Hyuk-Jae Jang、Ian Appelbaum2008-09-12arXiv

Evidence of spin precession and dephasing ("Hanle effect") induced by an external magnetic field is the only unequivocal proof of spin-polarized conduction electron transport in semiconductor devices. However, when spin dephasing is very strong, Hanle effect in a uniaxial magnetic field can be impossible to measure. U…

Crumpling wires in two dimensions

Y. C. Lin、Y. W. Lin、T. M. Hong2008-09-12arXiv

An energy-minimal simulation is proposed to study the patterns and mechanical properties of elastically crumpled wires in two dimensions. We varied the bending rigidity and stretching modulus to measure the energy allocation, size-mass exponent, and the stiffness exponent. The mass exponent is shown to be universal at…

Non-Fourier heat transport in metal-dielectric core-shell nanoparticles under ultrafast laser pulse excitation

Majid Rashidi-Huyeh、Sébastian Volz、Bruno Palpant2008-09-12Physical Review B

Relaxation dynamics of embedded metal nanoparticles after ultrafast laser pulse excitation is driven by thermal phenomena of different origins, the accurate description of which is crucial for interpreting experimental results: hot electron-gas generation, electron-phonon coupling, heat transfer to the particle enviro…

Interaction of a 180 ° ferroelectric domain wall with a biased scanning probe microscopy tip: Effective wall geometry and thermodynamics in Ginzburg-Landau-Devonshire theory

Anna N. Morozovska、Sergei V. Kalinin、Eugene А. Eliseev 等 5 位作者2008-09-12Physical Review B

The interaction of ferroelectric $180\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$-domain wall with a strongly inhomogeneous electric field of biased scanning probe microscope tip is analyzed within continuous Ginzburg-Landau-Devonshire theory. Equilibrium shape of the initially flat domain-wall boundary bends, attracts, or re…

Frictional Duality Observed during Nanoparticle Sliding

Dirk Dietzel、Claudia Ritter、Tristan Monninghoff 等 6 位作者2008-09-12arXiv

One of the most fundamental questions in tribology concerns the area dependence of friction at the nanoscale. Here, experiments are presented where the frictional resistance of nanoparticles is measured by pushing them with the tip of an atomic force microscope. We find two coexisting frictional states: While some par…

Use of Dynamic Rheological Behavior to Estimate the Dispersion of Carbon Nanotubes in Carbon Nanotube/Polymer Composites

Qinghua Zhang、Fang Fang、Xin Zhao 等 6 位作者2008-09-12The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Well-dispersed multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT)/polystyrene composites have been prepared. Transmission and scanning electron microscopy were employed to observe the distribution of the MWNTs in the composites in a microscopic scale, indicating a nanotube network formed in the matrix. The dispersion of the nanotubes…

Iridium-Catalyzed Dehydrogenation of Substituted Amine Boranes: Kinetics, Thermodynamics, and Implications for Hydrogen Storage

B.L. Dietrich、Karen I. Goldberg、D. Michael Heinekey 等 5 位作者2008-09-12Inorganic Chemistry

Dehydrogenation of amine boranes is catalyzed efficiently by the iridium pincer complex (kappa (3)-1,3-(OP ( t )Bu 2) 2C 6H 3)Ir(H) 2 ( 1). With CH 3NH 2BH 3 (MeAB) and with AB/MeAB mixtures (AB = NH 3BH 3), the rapid release of 1 equiv of H 2 is observed to yield soluble oligomeric products at rates similar to those…

Universality classes for Coulomb frustrated phase separation

C. Ortix、J. Lorenzana、C. Di Castro2008-09-12arXiv

We identify two "universality" classes in the Coulomb frustrated phase separation phenomenon. They correspond to two different kind of electronic compressibility anomalies often encountered in strongly correlated electronic systems. We discuss differences and similarities of their corresponding phase diagrams in two-…

Universality in the Photophysics of pi-Conjugated Polymers and Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Sumit Mazumdar、Zhendong Wang、Hongbo Zhao2008-09-12arXiv

We describe both pi-conjugated polymers and semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes because of the remarkable similarities in their behavior under photoexcitation. The common themes between these two seemingly different classes of materials are pi-conjugation, quasi one-dimensionality, and strong Coulomb interac…

The temperature dependent resistivity of two Pr1-xCaxMnO3 (x=0.5 and 0.4) thin films grown on LaAlO3 has been studied as a function of hydrostatic pressure (up to 2.5 GPa) and magnetic field (up to 9T). Both samples show a monotonic decrease in the resistivity with an increase in pressure, corresponding to a change of…
