Abstract
A yolk protein, egg-specific protein, synthesized and accumulated in the developing ovaries of Bombyx mori serves not only as the nutritive source for embryogenesis but also for the reorganization of the yolk system through limited degradation. Using the purified egg-specific protein as a substrate, a protease respons…
Methods to deduce the parameters of a multilayer X-ray mirror from its reflectivity curve are reviewed. Inversion methods are successful for coatings with few layers and give the thickness of each layer and the roughness of each interface. A statistical description of the coating is used for coatings with many layers,…
Abstract Liquid crystalline phthalocyanines with eight n ‐alkoxy chains have been synthesized and their mesophase structures determined by X‐ray diffraction. The mesophases appear to be of the D ho type. Reasons for the preference of ordered columns are discussed.
Organized monolayer structures prepared on polar solids via spontaneous adsoption from organic solutions (self-assembly) exhibit some rather unique features, particularly relevant with regard to possible technological applications of such systems.
A homogeneous dislocation distribution in deformed metals is unstable with respect to clustering of dislocation dipoles. The main reason for formation of the dislocation clusters is a net dipole drift to stress concentrations created by glide dislocations in a applied stress state. Linear stability analysis indicates…
The theory of electromigration is focused on the force acting on a lattice defect in a metallic sample that carries an electric current. Much work has been done to obtain a better understanding of the underlying physical mechanisms. The force has been calculated numerically for defects in several metals, and a qualita…
Values of log K for the association of several metal cations with 15-crown-5, 18-crown-6, and N,N′-dibenzyldiaza-18-crown-6, each covalently bonded to silica gel, were found to be nearly the same as those for the association of the same cations with the unbound macrocycles; this observation indicates the possibility o…
A 6-dimensional (6-D) periodic model is proposed for the Al-Mn-Si icosahedral quasiperiodic crystal. The model results from an embedding of the periodic cubic α structure in 6-D. In the Janner-Janssen-Bak description, it consists of three concentric spherical shells of respectively Mn, Al and Al aligned in perpendicul…
The decay of a profile artificially produced on a crystal surface below its roughening transition is studied by means of a qualitative theory. In the case of a bidirectional modulation the height h(t) is a linear function of time t and the lifetime τ is proportional to λ 3h(0), where λ is the wavelength. As suggested…
An experimental investigation of the distance dependence of long-range electron transfer in zinc/ruthenium-modified myoglobins has been performed. The modified proteins were prepared by substitution of zinc mesoporphyrin IX diacid (ZnP) for the heme in each of four previously characterized pentaammineruthenium(III) (a…
The Martensitic (MP) and incommensurate/commensurate (I/C) phase transformations during the athermal process of NiTi alloy were studied by the measurements of internal friction, elastic modulus and electric resistance simultaneously. The IF behaviour in the processes of MP and I/C phase transformations are nearly the…
In this article, authors present a description of an experimental example illustrating the most common methods for determination of kinetic parameters, the different theories and equations applied, and the discussion of the mechanisms derived from the kinetic results.
The atomic configurations of sub-steps created on (111) growth surface of fee crystal by stacking faults with fault vectors 1/6〈112〉and 1/3〈111〉show that they can act as growth step sources. Growth kinetics of stacking fault growth mechanism has been analysed. It has been shown that the nucleation barrier at the sub-s…

The Transient Reactor Test Facility (TREAT) at Argonne National Laboratory-West (ANL-W) is fueled with urania in a graphite and carbon mixture. This fuel was fabricated from a mixture of graphite flour, thermax (a thermatomic carbon produced by ''cracking'' natural gas), coal-tar resin and U/sub 3/O/sub 8/. During the…
Infrared spectra are reported of ammonia, nitrogen and nitric oxide adsorbed on Fe/SiO2 with and without the addition of K2O promoter. Ammonia is coordinatively bound to the iron surface at ambient temperature and at high temperature decomposes to give adsorbed dinitrogen with an infrared band at 2180 cm–1. Dinitrogen…
This paper describes a method of determination of reverse recovery current parameters of the thyristor turnoff model, namely, the peak reverse recovery current and its decay time constant. The parameters are determined from a set of recovered charge curves, and another set of reverse energy loss curves, usually given…
The amino acid analysis was carried out in order to clarify the differences in keratin between the body hair and the hoof of horse. A distinctive mark was recognized in the content of amino acid residues between the body hair and the hoof. The contents of Asx, Gly, Ala, Ile, Leu, Tyr and Phe were higher and those of T…
The reaction of NO with [FeL]·thf, (1)(H2L = 5H, 14H-6,8,15,17-tetramethyldibenzo[b,i]-[1,4,8,11]tetra-azacyclotetradecine, thf = tetrahydrofuran) in thf led to a deep green cyrstalline solid [FeL(NO)]·thf, (2). The N–O stretching vibration at 1 636 cm–1(Nujol) is quite low, if compared to the other nitrosyi derivativ…
