Coexistence of Mobile and Localized Electrons in Bis(ethylene)dithiotetrathiafulvalene (BEDT‐TTF) Radical Salts with Paramagnetic Polyoxometalates: Synthesis and Physical Properties of (BEDT‐TTF)8[CoW12O40]· 5.5 H2O

Carlos J. Gómez‐García、Lahcène Ouahab、Carlos Giménez‐Saiz 等 6 位作者1994-02-01Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English

Alternating layers of radicals of the π-electron donor 1 and of polyoxonions [CoW12O40]6− (2, polyhedral representation) are contained in the title compound. Thus, organic charge carriers and inorganic electron-acceptor components lie next to each other. Since the polyoxometalates can accommodate different metal ions…

New concepts for a high performance catalyzed‐reaction layer for medium temperature operating solid oxide fuel cells were proposed. Mixed conducting oxide particles, samaria‐doped ceria (SDC), were employed as the anode material utilizing highly dispersed noble metal catalysts on their surface. As the cathode material…

The magnetic and structural properties of pulsed laser deposited epitaxial MnZn–ferrite films

C. M. Williams、Douglas B. Chrisey、P. Lubitz 等 5 位作者1994-02-01Journal of Applied Physics

The magnetic and structural properties of pulsed laser deposited MnZn–ferrite films have been examined. The results show that the uniaxial anisotropy, ferromagnetic resonance linewidth and coercive force are strongly influenced by the microstructure of the films, and the saturation magnetization and first-order magnet…

Hydrophobic interaction at the subunit interface contributes to the thermostability of 3‐isopropylmalate dehydrogenase from an extreme thermophile, Thermus thermophilus

Hiromi Kirino、Makoto Aoki、Miho Aoshima 等 8 位作者1994-02-01European Journal of Biochemistry

We cloned and sequenced the leuB gene encoding 3-isopropylmalate dehydrogenase from Escherichia coli K-12 (JM103). Errors (33 residues) were found and corrected in the sequence previously reported for the leuB gene of Thermus thermophilus. The three-dimensional structure of the thermophile enzyme and the amino acid se…

Optical properties of frustrated cholesteric liquid crystals

Philippe Ribière、S. Pirkl、P. Oswald1994-02-01Liquid Crystals

In a previous article, we proposed a model to explain the unwinding transition in an electric field of a frustrated cholesteric liquid crystal sandwiched between two glass plates imposing a homeotropic anchoring. We found that three distinct solutions exist in materials of negative dielectric anisotropy: first, the ho…

Elastic moduli of simple fluids with steeply repulsive potentials

D. M. Heyes、Philip J. Aston1994-02-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

We examine the infinite frequency elastic moduli of steeply repulsive inverse power, r−n, potential fluids. Using molecular dynamics simulation we show that these are proportional to n and therefore diverge in the hard-sphere n→∞ limit, which we also prove independently for the case of hard spheres.

Martensitic phase transition with two-component order parameter in a stressed cubic crystal

E. V. Gomonaj、Victor A. L’vov1994-02-01Phase Transitions

Martensitic phase transitions in a stressed cubic crystal are studied by means of Landau theory with a two-component order parameter. The stress-temperature phase diagram is analyzed theoretically and is shown to consist of six essentially different regions isolated by the liability lines of austenite, tetragonal mart…

Hagen Klemm、Giuseppe Pezzotti1994-02-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The influence of small additions of three selected oxides on the microstructure and the mechanical behavior of high‐purity silicon nitride was systematically investigated. Dense silicon nitride bodies doped respectively with SiO 2 , Y 2 O 3 , and Yb 2 O 3 were fabricated by hot isostatic pressing (HIP). Two different…

Behavior of Aspartic Acid as a Corrosion Inhibitor for Steel

D. J. Kalota、D. C. Silverman1994-02-01CORROSION

Corrosion inhibition of steel by aspartic acid (C4H7NO4), an amino acid of low molecular weight, was found to depend strongly on pH. At a pH less than the ionization constant at ~ 9.5 to 10 (measured at 25°C), C4H7NO4 appeared to accelerate corrosion. Above that pH, it acted as a corrosion inhibitor for steel. A speci…

Accurate Measurement of the Pretilt Angle in a Liquid Crystal Cell by an Improved Crystal Rotation Method

Kwan‐Young Han、Tomohiro Miyashita、Taro Uchida1994-02-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals science technology. Section A, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals/Molecular crystals and liquid crystals science and technology. Section A, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

To measure the pretilt angle in a liquid crystal cell, the crystal rotation method is commonly used because it is very precise and the measurement time is short. However, if the cell gap is not uniform, a significant error occurs due to a shift of the measurement point. This shift is caused by refraction at the glass…
