Hima Varghese、S. S. Bhagawan、Sabu Thomas1999-04-04Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Blends of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA), with varying proportions of the components, were vulcanized using different crosslinking systems, namely, sulfur (S), dicumyl peroxide (DCP), and a mixed system (S + DCP). Mechanical properties, such as stress–strain behavior, te…

Bis(amides) of the type CH(3)CONH(CH(2))(n)()NHCOCH(3) (n = 2, 4, or 6) react with a range of manganese(II) and cobalt(II) salts to produce polymeric "framework" arrays, five of which have been studied by X-ray crystallography. Hexamethylenebis(acetamide) (HMBA) forms the compound [Co(HMBA)(3)](CoCl(4)).2EtOH in which…

Investigation by Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy of the Effect of Oxygen and Hydrogen Plasmas on Adsorbate-Covered Gold and Silver Island Films

E. Hesse、J. A. Creighton1999-04-03Langmuir

The effects of radio-frequency-excited oxygen and hydrogen plasmas on gold island films with adsorbed CN -, thiophenate, or p -nitrobenzoate ions have been investigated by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). An oxygen plasma caused oxidation of adsorbed CN - to Au(CN) 4 -, and there was evidence of oxidation o…

An internally circulating fluidized-bed (ICFB) reactor (i.d. eff = 1.9 cm, H riser = 10 and 20 cm, respectively) was applied to investigate the catalytic partial oxidation of methane to synthesis gas over Ni/α-Al 2 O 3 (Ni loading, 1 and 5 wt %; particle diameter, 71−160 and 250−355 μm). The experiments were performed…

Photoregulated Potassium Ion Permeation through Dihexadecyl Phosphate Bilayers Containing Azobenzene and Stilbene Surfactants

Yabin Lei、James K. Hurst1999-04-02Langmuir

Photoresponsive asymmetrically organized systems based upon small unilamellar dihexadecyl phosphate (DHP) vesicles were constructed by entrapping high concentrations of potassium ion within the vesicular aqueous core and incorporating either an amphiphilic trans -azobenzene-containing phosphate monoester or an amphiph…

Lattice Displacements Above Tc in the Layered Manganite La1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7

D. N. Argyriou、H. N. Bordallo、J. F. Mitchell 等 5 位作者1999-04-02arXiv

Neutron diffraction data presented in this paper demonstrates the relevance of lattice displacement above TC, in our understanding of the evolution of the crystal structure with temperature in the layered CMR manganite La1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7. The anomalous temperature behavior of thermal diffuse scattering (TDS) in La1.2Sr1.…

Adsorbate-induced substrate relaxation and the adsorbate-adsorbate interaction

R. Brako、D. Sokcevic1999-04-02arXiv

We formulate the theory of the perturbation caused by an adsorbate upon the substrate lattice in terms of a local modification of the interatomic potential energy around the adsorption site, which leads to the relaxation of substrate atoms. We apply the approach to CO chemisorption on close-packed metal surfaces, and…

Quantum Phase Interference and Parity Effects in Magnetic Molecular Clusters

Wolfgang Wernsdorfer、Roberta Sessoli1999-04-02OpenAlex

An experimental method based on the Landau-Zener model was developed to measure very small tunnel splittings in molecular clusters of eight iron atoms, which at low temperature behave like a nanomagnet with a spin ground state of S = 10. The observed oscillations of the tunnel splittings as a function of the magnetic…

Determination of the parameters of deep levels from the relaxational delay of breakdown of a p-n junction

S. V. Bulyarskiĭ、Yu. N. Serëzhkin、V. K. Ionychev1999-04-01Semiconductors

A technique for determining the deep-center parameters from the relaxational delay of avalanche breakdown of a p-n junction is investigated. The method implemented does not impose any restrictions on the relation between the concentration of the deep centers and that of the dopant impurities and can be used in those c…

Mechanism of Embrittlement Of Al Alloy By Liquid Metal (GA)

W.Y. Chu、X.M. Liu、Jing‐Li Luo 等 4 位作者1999-04-01Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly

The liquid metal-induced embrittlement (LME) of 7075 Al alloy by Ga was investigated by using modified wedge open loaded (WOL) specimens. The results showed that the adsorption of Ga atoms could facilitate local plastic deformation of the base metal and there was an observable concave plastic zone at the notch tip. A…

The Separate Removal of Trace 14 CO 2 and Moist NO x from Off-Gases by Adsorption on H-Type Mordenite

Z.-M. Wang、T. Arai、Mikio Kumagai1999-04-01Adsorption Science & Technology

Three kinds of mordenite were examined for the adsorptive separation and removal of trace amounts of 14 CO 2 and moist NO x contained in the off-gases of reprocessing plants for spent nuclear fuels. It was found that protonation of mordenite eliminated any possible removal of CO 2 by specific adsorption but induced th…

Analysis of a Poly(oxymethylene) Polymer by XPS

John M. Lannon、Qingru Meng1999-04-01Surface Science Spectra

We report x-ray photoemission spectra for a poly(oxymethylene) (POM) polymer (also known as acetal). XPS spectra were acquired with a SSI model SSX-100 instrument using monochromated Al Kα x-rays. We present the survey spectrum (binding energy 0–1000 eV) and a narrow spectrum of the C 1s and O 1s photoelectron peaks.
