Dielectric relaxation studies of heterogeneously substituted cellulose acetate and its plasticization by dibutyl phthalate

Stephen J. Doyle、Richard A. Pethrick1992-01-01Polymer International

Abstract Dielectric relaxation measurements are reported on plasticized commercial and heterogeneously substituted cellulose acetate. Differences in the observed behaviour are attributed to the retention of a degree of crystallinity and microscopic structure in the original substituted cellulose samples. A comparison…

Direct measurement of molten poly(ethylene terephthalate) contact angles on single aminopropylsilane coated glass fibers

Bryan B. Sauer1992-01-01Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology

The kinetics of spreading of molten poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) on aminopropylsilane (APS) treated glass fiber surfaces has been studied. The modified Wilhelmy wetting method was used for contact angle determination with small diameter fibers (10-100 μm) used as vertical wetting probes. It is shown that the sma…

ANALYSIS OF MAGNETIC FIELDS IN TRANSFORMER CORES USING PERSONAL COMPUTERS

A. Basak、C.H. Yu1992-01-01COMPEL The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The finite element technique has been used to develop a software package which, with the help of an IBM/PC 386 computer, can determine two dimensional magnetic fields and power loss in transformer cores. The program takes into account both the non‐linear B‐H characteristic and the anisotropy of the core material.

Chain‐folding in polyethylene lamellar structure

Ismail A. Al-Raheil、Ali M. Okaz1992-01-01Polymer International

Abstract The nature of the chain‐folding in polyethylene lamellar structure from the melt has been studied. Permanganic etching was used to reveal the morphology by selective removal of material from the surface of the specimen. This was done to prepare the sample for transmission electron microscopy. The micrographs…

ELECTRON SPIN RESONANCE STUDIES ON TRIS (1, 10-PHENANTHROLINE) COPPER (II) ADSORBED BY HECTORITE AND SAPONITE

Yoshiko Yano、Tokuko Watanabe、Masahiro Taniguchi 等 4 位作者1992-01-01Medical Entomology and Zoology

The adsorption of tris(1,10-phenanthroline)copper(II) ([Cu(phen) 3 ] 2+ ) by a clay mineral has been studied with electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements. The chelate, tris(1.10-phenanthroline)copper(II) ([Cu(phen) 3 ] 2+ ), is co-adsorbed with a large excess of racemic or enantiomeric [Ru(phen) 3 ] 2+ . The spectr…

Enhancement of Fracture Toughness by Residual Stress in Si3N4 Composites

S. Kohsaka、Masahito Nakanishi、Kazunori Koga1992-01-01Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan

Fracture toughness of Si3N4 ceramics with and without addition of TaSi2 particles, prepared by hot-pressing at 1750°C and 1650°-1750°C, respectively, was determined. The fracture toughness increased significantly with increasing TaSi2 content. The enhanced toughness by the addition of TaSi2 particles was interpreted t…

Thermal decomposition of azobisisobutyronitrile dissolved in xylene in the presence of tin(IV) chloride

Ruey‐Shin Juang、Ji‐Feng Liang1992-01-01Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology

Abstract The rate of thermal decomposition of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) dissolved in xylene was investigated alone and in the presence of tin(IV) chloride over the temperature range of 90–107°C. It was found that the decomposition rate of AIBN increases linearly with increasing concentration of tin(IV) chloride, w…

Study of the linear birefringence and domain structure in [N(CH3)4]2CoCl4and [N(CD3)4]2ZnCl4

J. Kroupa、W. Schranz、A. Fuith 等 5 位作者1992-01-01Ferroelectrics

The linear birefringence study of the N- -INC phase transition in [N(CH3)4]2CoCl4 and [N(CD3)4]2ZnCl4 is reported. The deviation from the linear behaviour above Ti can be well fitted by an exponential law, which is at present purely phenomenological. The temperature dependence of the order parameter has been extracted…

When sintered Al 2 O 3 is annealed with CaMgSiAlO glass at 1600°C, polyhedral MgAl 2 O 4 grains form and glass pockets are entrapped within the grains. After annealing for 13 h at 1600°C, the liquid pockets show a regular octahedron shape which is expected to represent the equilibrium shape. All grain surfaces in cont…

Spherical gel particles from rice husk by chemical digestion

Ismail Abdul Rahman1992-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

Rice husk has been treated with concentrated HNO3 to give a colloid and other products. The colloid, when separated and aged, gave a non-uniform distribution of gel-like spherical particles. It is suggested that the process is a polymerisation with gel size varying according to degree of polymerisation.
