Continuous local model for two-dimensional spin ice

J. E. da Fonseca、C. W. Morais、A. L. Mota 等 4 位作者2016-11-14arXiv

We propose a classical model Hamiltonian with a ground state presenting a spin ice structure. We analyze the introduction of metastable excitations on this ground state, showing the emergence of pairs of magnetic monopoles. The interaction between monopoles and dipoles in the system is studied. As a consequence, we ob…

Dynamic Polarization and Relaxation of 75As Nuclei in Silicon at High Magnetic Field and Low Temperature

J. Järvinen、J. Ahokas、S. Sheludyakov 等 8 位作者2016-11-14arXiv

We present the results of experiments on dynamic nuclear polarization and relaxation of 75As in silicon crystals. Experiments are performed in strong magnetic fields of 4.6 T and temperatures below 1 K. At these conditions donor electron spins are fully polarized, and the allowed and forbidden ESR transitions are well…

STM observation of a box-shaped graphene nanostructure appeared after mechanical cleavage of pyrolytic graphite

Rostislav V. Lapshin2016-11-14arXiv

A description is given of a three-dimensional box-shaped graphene (BSG) nanostructure formed/uncovered by mechanical cleavage of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). The discovered nanostructure is a multilayer system of parallel hollow channels located along the surface and having quadrangular cross-section. Th…

Strong and tough nanofibrous hydrogel composites based on biomimetic principles

Khaow Tonsomboon、Annabel L. Butcher、Michelle L. Oyen2016-11-14Materials Science and Engineering C

Mechanically robust hydrogels are required for many tissue engineering applications to serve as cell-supporting structures. Unlike natural tissues, the majority of existing tough hydrogels lack ordered microstructures organized to withstand specific loading conditions. In this work, electrospun gelatin nanofibres, mim…
