We demonstrate the epitaxial growth of hexagonal Pr2O3(001) on Si(111), with x-ray ω-scan full width at half maximum values as low as 0.06°, which is comparable with Si substrates. A method to prepare a new class of dianhydrides is outlined. A representative polyimide, PPI, has been prepared by a two-stage condensation reaction between polyphenylated dianhydride and 3,6-diamino-9-hexylcarbazole. The PPI is readily soluble in common organic solvents, and shows only 10 wt % loss at 555 °C.
