Hillock formation on Pt bottom electrode surfaces has been investigated for 〈111〉 Si and sapphire substrates. This paper correlates the electrical performance of Pt/PZT/Pt structured capacitors with the observed surface roughness and/or hillock presence on the Pt bottom electrode.

The purpose of this presentation is to provide some perspective gained from recent studies in condensed matter physics on the microscopic processes by which martensitic transformations take place to supplement the highly developed crystallographic and thermodynamic descriptions. Atomic scale dynamics can be related to…

A simple method for the preparation of monophasic β‐SiAlON using nitridation of Si and AIN with an oxygen partial pressure of 10 ‐4 atm is described. The effect of the AIN/Si ratio in the initial mixture on the formation of β‐SiAlON is discussed. The likely mechanism of the formation of β‐SiAlON is outlined.

We propose a 3-state spin model to simulate the martensitic transition (MT) between austenite (S = 0) and two different, twin-related, martensitic phases (S = &I).The system can be driven by two fields: A plays the role of temperature (drives the thermallyinduced transition) and H plays the role of an uniaxial stress.…

3,3′,4,4′-Biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA) was investigated as the central core unit in mesogenic molecules. Of particular interest was whether the BPDA unit could be self-constrained into a trans-conformation, and thus organize into a liquid crystalline phase. Two homologous series of symmetrical substitute…

In this paper, results from static tests have been used to establish scale inhibitor adsorption mechanisms and levels in consolidated reservoir cores and to rank inhibitors for their adsorption behaviour and, in some cases, squeeze return lifetimes. The purpose of this rapid and simple type of bulk adsorption measurem…

Icosahedral alloy Al86Cr8Fe6 and its crystallization products have been studied with X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility methods. The presence of a multiplicity of Fe sites is demonstrated, and this is interpreted as evidence of intrinsic disor…
