Wei Xie、Christoph S. Herrmann、Karsten Kömpe 等 5 位作者2011-11-04OpenAlex

The synthesis of bifunctional Au/Pt/Au nanoraspberries for use in quantitative in situ monitoring of platinum-catalyzed reactions by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is presented. Highly convolved SERS spectra of reaction mixtures can be decomposed into the contributions of distinct molecular species by multiv…

Stabilizing the Optimal Carrier Concentration for High Thermoelectric Efficiency

Yanzhong Pei、Aaron D. LaLonde、Nicholas A. Heinz 等 8 位作者2011-11-04OpenAlex

The band structure of PbTe can be manipulated by alloying with MgTe to control the band degeneracy. This is used to stabilize the optimal carrier concentration, making it less temperature dependent, demonstrating a new strategy to improve overall thermoelectric efficiency over a broad temperature range.

Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM)

E. Soergel2011-11-04OpenAlex

Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) detects the local piezoelectric deformation of a sample caused by an applied electric field from the tip of a scanning force microscope. PFM is able to measure deformations in the sub-picometre regime and can map ferroelectric domain patterns with a lateral resolution of a few nano…

Green composites: An overview

Elisa Zini、Mariastella Scandola2011-11-04OpenAlex

Abstract The use of natural fibers to reinforce polymers is a well‐established practice, and biocomposites are increasingly used in sectors such as automotive and construction. Green composites are a specific class of biocomposites, where a bio‐based polymer matrix is reinforced by natural fibers, and they represent a…

Self‐Assembly and Embedding of Nanoparticles by In Situ Reduced Graphene for Preparation of a 3D Graphene/Nanoparticle Aerogel

Wufeng Chen、Sirong Li、Chunhua Chen 等 4 位作者2011-11-04OpenAlex

A 3D graphene architecture can be prepared via an in situ self-assembly of graphene prepared by a mild chemical reduction. Fe(3) O(4) nanoparticles are homogeneously dispersed into graphene oxide (GO) aqueous suspension and a 3D magnetic graphene/Fe(3) O(4) aerogel is prepared during the reduction of GO to graphene. T…

Resonant levels in bulk thermoelectric semiconductors

Joseph P. Heremans、Bartłomiej Wiendlocha、Audrey M. Chamoire2011-11-04OpenAlex

Distortions of the electronic density of states (DOS) are a potent mechanism to increase the thermopower of thermoelectric semiconductors, thereby increasing their power factor. We review band-structure engineering approaches that have been used to achieve this, resonant impurity levels, dilute Kondo effects, and hybr…

Functional Residues in Proteins

Shandar Ahmad、Jung‐Ying Wang、Zulfiqar Ahmad 等 4 位作者2011-11-03Journal of Amino Acids

We are delighted to present a special issue on the subject of functional residues of proteins. Finding focused articles within the time frame of a special issue is always challenging, which is further compounded by authors' reluctance in making their contributions to new journals. We have been fortunate enough that so…

Soft PVC foams: Study of the gelation, fusion and foaming processes. III. Mixed phthalate ester plasticizers

Agnes Zoller、A. Marcilla2011-11-03Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The foaming of PVC (poly(vinyl chloride)) plastisols is a complex combination of simultaneous processes, involving the curing and structural changes of the plastisol, the gas generation and the foam formation. Our comprehensive study of such processes and of the influence of plasticizer on the foam quality ha…

Bimetallic Pd( ii )/Fe( ii )-mediated self-assembly of three-dimensional hybrid multilayers with a terpyridine-contained poly(vinylpyridine) derivative as a linker on substrate surface

Jiang Liu、Liu An、Meng Chen 等 4 位作者2011-11-03RSC Advances

Pd(II)/Fe(II)-mediated three-dimensional bimetal-organic multilayers have been constructed on the substrate surfaces with the use of a polymeric ligand of terpyridine-contained poly(vinylpyridine) (PVPTPy) derivative as a linker as well as inorganic salts of Na2PdCl4 and Fe(BF4)2 as connectors. The assembly process wa…

Structure and thermal behavior of poly(L‐lactic acid) clay nanocomposites: Effect of preparation method as a function of the nanofiller modification level

Sotirios I. Marras、Ioannis Zuburtikudis2011-11-03Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The structural and thermal characteristics of poly( L ‐lactic acid)/layered‐silicate hybrid materials that were produced via two different routes, namely by solvent casting and by melt mixing, were compared in association with the degree of clay modification. Investigation of the produced materials' structure…

Inhomogeneous superconductivity in organic conductors: the role of disorder and magnetic field

S. Haddad、S. Charfi‐Kaddour、J-P Pouget2011-11-03Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

Several experimental studies have shown the presence of spatially inhomogeneous phase coexistence of superconducting and non-superconducting domains in low dimensional organic superconductors. The superconducting properties of these systems are found to be strongly dependent on the amount of disorder introduced in the…

Ime J. Umoh、Tom J. Kázmierski2011-11-03ePrints Soton (University of Southampton)

We propose a VHDL-AMS model for a dual gate bilayer graphene field effect transistor (GFET). The GFET model in consideration is based on closed analytical derivations for a graphene device model. The analytical derivations describe the I-V characteristics of the transistor operating at the various regions. An up-kick…
