Exchange magnetostriction in the paramagnetic phase of EuS

R. D. Yacovitch、Y. Shapira、S. Foner 等 4 位作者1979-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

The longitudinal and transverse magnetostriction in EuS were measured at 1.8<T<146 K, in magnetic fields up to 130 kOe. In the paramagnetic phase (T≳Tc=16.49 K) the magnetostriction is predominantly due to the strain dependence of the exchange energy. The results are explained in terms of the theory of C…

MÖSSBAUER STUDIES IN FERROMAGNETIC Ru2FeSn

R. G. Pillay、R. Nagarajan、P. N. Tandon1979-03-01Le Journal de Physique Colloques

We have measured the hyperfine magnetic fields at iron and tin in a new Heusler alloy Ru2FeSn using Mössbauer effect. The values for the hyperfine fields obtained at 80 K are 314.0 ± 1.6 and + 117.9 ± 1.5 kOe for iron and tin respectively. The field at tin is about a factor of two larger in comparison to Rh2FeSn while…

Triplet Absorption and Phase Transition in AgNa(NO2)2

Masanori Hangyo、Risō Katō1979-03-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

The polarized spectra of the triplet absorption in AgNa(NO 2 ) 2 have been investigated in the temperature range of -265∼70°C. The intensity of the E // b absorption decreases remarkably when the temperature is raised and approaches to T c . Above T c , it remains constant and is about 30% of the value at sufficiently…

Felipe Gregorio、Pierfranco Lattanzi、Giuseppe Tanelli 等 4 位作者1979-03-01Mineralogical Magazine

Summary Garavellite occurs in polished sections, as small aggregates, up to 200 µ m across, of anhedral crystals, usually in direct contact with tetrahedrite, Sb-rich bismuthinite, chalcopyrite, and siderite. Chemical formula Fe 0,80 Cu 0.02 Sb 1.13 Bi 0.78 As 0.01 S 4 on the basis of S = 4, or ideally FeSbBiS 4 . The…

The Filler—Elastomer Chemical Link and the Reinforcement of Rubber

Jean Le Bras、E. Papirer1979-03-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract The results confirm the rationale which guided the experiments. The mechanical properties of the vulcanizate prepared without any milling and containing a carbon black chemically grafted to part of the elastomer are definitely superior to those of the blank, prepared under the same conditions with an ungrafte…

Role of electron-electron interactions in the RKKY theory of magnetism

J. F. Cooke1979-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

The theory of magnetism in heavy rare earth metals is based on the RKKY theory. In this formalism the indirect exchange interaction between the local 4f spins is mediated by the conduction electrons. When carried to second order in the 4f-conduction electron interaction, traditional pertubation theory leads to a Heise…

The asymptotic distribution for the time to failure of a fiber bundle

S. Leigh Phoenix1979-03-01Advances in Applied Probability

A model is developed for the failure time of a bundle of fibers subjected to a constant load. At any time, all surviving fibers share the bundle load equally while all failed fibers support no load. The bundle may collapse immediately or fibers may fail randomly in time, possibly more than one at a time. The failure t…

A contribution to the study of the stability of clay minerals from the soil solution composition at different pF values

María Luisa Fernández Marcos、Felipe Macı́as、F. Guitián-Ojea1979-03-01Clay Minerals

Abstract The composition of the soil solution of various horizons of Galician soils was studied to gain insight into the direction of the processes of weathering and neoformation by means of stability diagrams of the clay minerals. The soil solution was extracted by compression at various pF values. The most significa…

Crystal Structure of Tris(acetylacetonato)molybdenum(III)

CL Raston、AH White1979-03-01Australian Journal of Chemistry

The crystal structure of the title compound, [MO(C5H7O2)3], has been determined at 295(1) K by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods and refined by least squares to a residual of 0.040 for 2933 'observed' reflections. Crystals are monoclinic, P21/n, a 16.515(4), b 13.052(4), c 8.152(2) Å, ß 90.74(2)º, Z 4. The stru…

Grain coarsening of PM nickel-base superalloy by critical strain annealing

Milena Dahlen、L. Winberg1979-03-01Metal Science

Critical strain annealing has been investigated for the of development of coarse grain structures in PM Astroloy. The need for this type of treatment arises because normal grain coarsening is severely retarded by carbides in the prior particle boundaries (PPBs). It was found that a strain of ∼ 2.2% produced coarse gra…

DEVELOPMENTS IN STRONG, DUCTILE DUPLEX FERRITIC - MARTENSITIC STEELS

G. Thomas1979-03-01eScholarship (California Digital Library)

This paper is concerned with the morphology and structure-property relations in a range of duplex ferritic-martensitic (DFM) steels. It is shown that the properties depend, in a complex way, on all the parameters of the equation of mixtures viz.ferrite and martensite strengths and volume fractions. These parameters depe…

Magnetic exchange between Ti3+ ions in titanium phosphate glass

Charles H. Perry、D. L. Kinser、L. K. Wilson 等 4 位作者1979-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

Magnetic properties of reduced titanium phosphate glasses are reported. Magnetic susceptibility measurements from 1.0° to 400°K indicates behavior typical for amorphous antiferromagnetism. The more reduced glasses show an anomalous field dependence in the susceptibility suggestive of ferromagnetism. A microstructural…

Relation between the adenylylation state of glutamine synthetase and the expression of other genes involved in nitrogen metabolism

R B Goldberg、Robert M. Hanau1979-03-01Journal of Bacteriology

We have partially characterized the biochemical parameters of glutamine synthetase from Klebsiella pneumoniae and have shown that the differential affinity of adenylylated and unadenylylated glutamine synthetase for adenosine diphosphate provides a convenient means of determining the adenylylation state. Using this as…

Surface activities of Mg in Al alloys

Tairen Sun、J. M. Chen、R. K. Viswanadham 等 4 位作者1979-03-01Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology

The loss of Mg from Mg-containing Al alloys during heat treatments is a well-known metallurgical problem. Recent studies revealed that regardless of whether the loss of Mg is via formation of MgO in air or via evaporation of Mg in vacuum, the kinetics is primarily controlled by a surface reaction and is described by t…

Julian Thiele、Robert E. Cohen1979-03-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract Single phase interpenetrating polystyrene networks were synthesized using a room temperature photopolymerization method. Divinylbenzene was used for crosslinking both networks in most cases; a few IPNs were prepared using acrylic acid anhydride to provide labile crosslinkages in the primary network. The IPNs…
