Magnetic phase transition in Tm2Fe17
The magnetization and the Mössbauer effect were studied for Tm2Fe17 as a function of temperature in the range 4.2–350 K. The results indicate a magnetic phase transition near 72 K.

Abstract The storage and loss shear moduli, G , and G ˝, have been measured for solutions of three samples of poly‐γ‐benzyl‐ L ‐glutamate with molecular weights from 16 to 57 × 10 4 , by use of the Birnboim‐Schrag multiple‐lumped resonator. The frequency range was 106 to 6060 H z , the concentration range 0.0015–0.005…
Fission fragment tracks produced on prepared surfaces of uranium dioxide were observed by replica electron microscopy. Several statistical analyses and measurements were performed on the observed tracks to be compared with theoretical studies of a fission fragment passing through a stopping medium. A temperature distr…
Abstract Approximately 5% of all organic compounds are transformed at their melting point into liquid crystals—thermodynamically stable, anisotropic liquids which in contrast to isotropic melts appear turbid and are also known as mesophases. Such melts are classed as smectic, nematic, and cholesteric liquid crystallin…
The multiphonon relaxation process has been studied in the host crystals YV${\mathrm{O}}_{4}$, YAs${\mathrm{O}}_{4}$, and YP${\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ using the rare earths ${\mathrm{Ho}}^{3+}$, ${\mathrm{Er}}^{3+}$, ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$, and ${\mathrm{Pr}}^{3+}$ as probes. Lifetimes were measured with the phase-shift techniq…
BaFe12O19 particles were prepared by chemical precipitation and ordinary powder metallurgy methods. These particles were oriented in paraffin wax and the angular variation of coercive force was measured. By using the modified equation of Buessem et al., its variation was analyzed. It was found that reverse-domain nucl…
Stress-strain data were obtained over a wide range of grain sizes for brass, copper and aluminium. A Hall-Petch relation was found not to describe work hardening in the cases of copper and aluminium. An approach to poly-crystal work hardening, based in part on Ashby's concepts, was also unsuccessful in describing the…
Abstract The empirical pseudopotential method is used to compute the band structure, density of states, and reflectivity of hexagonal zinc oxide. The local approximation is assumed, on the basis of recent photoemission experiments which showed that the zinc core 3d band lies deep below the valence band. The calculatio…

Abstract PACS, a computer program to simulate very slow settling of rigid equal spheres into a randomly packed bed, is described. Simulated packings of 6,000, 10,000, and 15,000 spheres are anisotropic. Mean void fraction is 0.42 and mean number of nearest neighbours 6.0. There are numerous cases of four spheres arran…
SUMMARY This paper is concerned with methods for obtaining three‐dimensional (3D) information from scanning electron microscope (SEM) images. It may come as a surprise that this topic merits separate discussion, because, it is generally accepted that every SEM image of a rough surface using the secondary electron emis…
Thermoelastic martensitic transformation has been studied by the analysis of stress-strain curves in binary Au-Cd alloys, containing 46·5, 47·5, 48·5, 49, 49·5, and 50 at. % Cd, respectively. The pseudoelastic characteristics, i.e. superelastic and ferroelastic behaviour upon tension compression test and that the orig…
We have measured the temperature dependence of the thermal diffusion factor αT of argon and krypton isotopes from approximately 200 to 900 °K thereby extending experimental determinations from 250 to 300 ° higher than heretofore. Furthermore, we observed that αT for krypton at low temperatures was nearly twice as larg…
The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) characteristics of ASTM A517 Grade F steel in liquid ammonia environments have been investigated. Acceleration of the cracking process was accomplished at 150 psig by the use of a dynamic slow strain rate testing procedure capable of producing cracking in as little as 24 hours. Test…
The transition temperature of Nb${\mathrm{Se}}_{2}$ as a function of the concentration of such paramagnetic impurities as Fe, Ni, and Co shows a very strong anomaly close to the critical concentration which destroys superconductivity. The strength of the effect in Nb${\mathrm{Se}}_{2}$ is believed to be caused both by…
Laser‐induced Raman spectra were obtained for powders and multidomain single crystals of PbZrO 3 at room temperature. Factor‐group analysis was used to interpret the spectra on the basis of the space group C 2v 8 ‐Pba 2. Raman spectra were also observed for single crystals of PbZrO 3 at several other temperatures betw…
Abstract The adsorption of thiourea on iron cathodes has been studied in 0.1 N sulphuric acid solution containing 10 −1 and 10 −2 Mol of thiourea at 30, 40 and 50 °C. The surface coverage has been calculated by comparing current density (at constant potential and temperature) of solutions with and without inhibitor. T…

Efforts to relate metal-complex stability constants to some property of the metal ions involved have led to the development of a correlating numerical index Q with the following characteristics: (i) Q is a two parameter quantity involving ionic charge and electronegativity, which may assume different values for a part…
