The Fluorescent Response of NaI(Tl), CsI(Tl), CsI(Na) and CaF2(Eu) to X-Rays and Low Energy Gamma Rays

D.W. Aitken、B. L. Beron、G. Yenicay 等 4 位作者1967-01-01IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science

The fluorescent response functions of NaI(Tl), CsI(Tl), CsI(Na) and CaF2(Eu) have been determined with thin crystals over the energy range from 3.3 keV to 840 keV. A pronounced nonlinear dependence on photon energy has been observed in this region for all four types of crystals investigated. Qualitatively the response…

The structural mechanics of fibers

J. W. S. Hearle1967-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part C Polymer Symposia

Abstract The “traditional” assumed structures of fibers, such as the fringed micelle and fringed fibril forms, regard the fiber as made up of a mixture of crystalline and noncrystalline regions. This view has been subject to considerable criticism in recent years, but it does, nevertheless, remain the most effective b…

Infrared Studies of Protective Films Formed by Acetylenic Corrosion Inhibitors

G. W. Poling1967-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Infrared spectra of surface films formed on iron and steel mirrors by propargyl alcohol, acetylene, and ethynyl‐cyclohexanol acid corrosion inhibitors were recorded using a multiple reflectance technique. These spectra showed that the acetylenic molecules reacted at the metal surfaces in solutions to produce protectiv…

Yielding of glassy polymers: Volume effects

W. M. Whitney、R. D. Andrews1967-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part C Polymer Symposia

Abstract A yield criterion is constructed for glassy polymers from results of constant strain‐rate tests in different stress fields. A significant effect of hydrostatic pressure (or volume change) on the yield stress of polystyrene was found. Direct dilatometric measurements were made on polystyrene, poly(methyl metha…

Crystal structure of syndiotactic polypropylene

P. Corradini、G. Natta、Paolo Ganis 等 4 位作者1967-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part C Polymer Symposia

Abstract Double oriented fiber spectra of syndiotactic polypropylene were obtained. It was possible to redetermine with greater accuracy the unit cell constants, which are: a = 14.50, b = 5.60, c = 7.40 A. Space group: C222 1 . It was proved that the chain has s (2/1)2 symmetry, corresponding to a succession of intern…

The theory of paramagnetic relaxation

K W H Stevens1967-01-01Reports on Progress in Physics

The spin-lattice relaxation of paramagnetic ions in ionic crystals takes place via thermal modulations of the complex consisting of the ion and its immediate neighbours. The standard theory is that due to Van Vleck, who used a crystal-field model to describe the complex. In recent years there have been extensive devel…

Study of the Structure of Vanadium in Soda—Boric Oxide Glasses

Harry G. Hecht、Theron S. Johnston1967-01-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The EPR and optical spectra of vanadium in the Na2O–B2O3 glass system have been analyzed. It is found that the data can best be interpreted in terms of a vanadyl-type structure in a ligand field of fourfold symmetry. Good correlation of the optical and EPR data is achieved through molecular orbital calculations, which…

The Classification of Non-Euclidean Plane Crystallographic Groups

A. M. Macbeath1967-01-01Canadian Journal of Mathematics

This paper deals with the algebraic classification of non-euclidean plane crystallographic groups (NEC groups, for short) with compact quotient space. The groups considered are the discrete groups of motions of the Lobatschewsky or hyperbolic plane, including those which contain orientation-reversing reflections and g…

Measurement of Diffusion Lengths in Direct-Gap Semiconductors by Electron-Beam Excitation

David B. Wittry、David F. Kyser1967-01-01Journal of Applied Physics

In semiconductors having high efficiency for radiative recombination, the voltage dependence of cathodoluminescence may be used to determine the diffusion length and to estimate the surface recombination velocity of excess carriers. Theoretical calculations are based on a knowledge of the Laplace transform of the dist…

Elastic moduli of the crystal lattices of polymers

Ichiro Satcurada、Taisuke Ito、Katsuhiko Nakamae1967-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part C Polymer Symposia

Abstract Elastic moduli of the crystalline regions in high polymers have been studied. Oriented specimens were used throughout. Lattice strains were measured by an x‐ray technique in the direction of the fiber axis as well as in that perpendicular to the fiber axis. The moduli for both directions were calculated on th…

Reactions of Glasses with Aqueous Solutions

Roy Douglas、T.M. El-Shamy1967-01-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The kinetics of the reactions of various glasses with water and aqueous solutions with pH from 1 to 13 was studied. Simple binary alkali oxide‐silica glasses were examined as well as some ternary glasses derived from the binary compositions by substituting alkaline‐earth oxides for silica. All components of the glass…
