NUMERICAL VLF MODELING*

P. Kaikkonen1979-12-01Geophysical Prospecting

A bstract The VLF response of laterally inhomogeneous and anisotropic models is calculated numerically using the finite element method. Some results are presented for a slab model in terms both of the polarization parameters, i.e., the tilt angle and ellipticity of the magnetic polarization ellipse, and the amplitude…

Magnetoelectric Effect of Fe3O4 at 77 K. I. Crystal Symmetry

Kiiti Siratori、Eiji Kita、Gentaro Kaji 等 7 位作者1979-12-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

Magnetoelectric effect of the low temperature phase of magnetite was measured at 77 K. It was confirmed that the magnetic crystal symmetry at 77 K is triclinic but the breaking of the mirror symmetry parallel to the (1\bar10) plane is very small. Dispersion of the magnetoelectric effect was observed with the relaxatio…

Crevice Corrosion of Alloy 600 in High Temperature Aqueous Environments

D. F. Taylor1979-12-01CORROSION

Small bore Inconel Alloy 600(1) tubing exhibits classical crevice behavior in an appropriate high temperature aqueous environment and is therefore useful for studying the crevice chemistry of this alloy in systems which are not readily amenable to crevice simulation by external electrochemical control. Experiments in…

The non-collinear component in the magnetic structure of Mn 4 N

D. Fruchart、D. Givord、P. Convert 等 5 位作者1979-12-01Journal of Physics F Metal Physics

The magnetic structure of Mn 4 N is shown to be not exactly of ferrimagnetic collinear type. Experiments using, separately, non-polarised and polarised neutrons reveal the existence of a small triangular magnetic component on each of the Mn atoms that are at the centres of the faces of the cubes.

The mechanism for a.c. conduction in chalcogenide semiconductors: Electronic or atomic?

S. R. Elliott1979-12-01Philosophical Magazine B

The effect of pronounced pairing of oppositely charged defect centres on a.c. conduction in chalcogenide glasses is discussed. It is concluded that for this non-random case, the conductivity should be fairly accurately linear with no temperature dependence for some typical chalcogenide glasses. However, for certain co…

The ooids of Baffin Bay, Texas

E. W. Behrens L. S. Land、E. W. Behrens、S. A. Frishman1979-12-01Journal of Sedimentary Research

Abstract The radial coatings of Holocene ooids from Baffin Bay, Texas, are Mg-calcite, whereas the tangential and micritic coatings are aragonite. Centrifugally deposited ooid coatings are similar in many respects to centripetally deposited marine cements. The reason(s) for the mineralogical and textural variation in…

Anodic Dissolution and Passivation of Titanium in Acidic Media: III . Chloride Solutions

Eugene J. Kelly1979-12-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The electrochemical behavior of titanium in deoxygenated acidic chloride solutions, with and without additions of Ti(III) and Ti(IV) ions, has been determined and compared with that observed in acidic sulfate media. A monolayer mechanism has been developed for the active‐state dissolution and passivation of titanium i…

Measurements of average magnetic susceptibility and magnetic anisotropy on the single crystals of FeTPP in the 4-300 K temperature r ange are reported. These results together wi th the other existing evidence establish an S = 1 spin state for the iron(I1) ion in FeTPP. It is shown that the experimental principal susce…

The Effect of Oxygen Temperature Combinations on the Stress Corrosion Susceptibility of Sensitized Type 304 Stainless Steel in High Purity Water

F. P. Ford、M. J. POVICH1979-12-01CORROSION

The variation in stress corrosion susceptibility and cracking morphology of sensitized Type 304 stainless steel in high purity water is reported as a function of combinations of oxygen (0.01 to 8 ppm) and temperature (75 to 288 C). The results are discussed both in terms of the fundamental parameters involved in stres…

The structure and ferroelastic phase transition of BiVO4

William I. F. David、Mike Glazer、A.W. Hewat1979-12-01Phase Transitions

The structure of BiVO4 has been determined by the Rietveld method at 300, 573 and 898 K and confirms the space group of the ferroelastic phase as 12/a and that of the paraelastic phase as 141/a. The displacement vectors of the atoms involved in the switching of ferroelastic states are calculated and indicate that the…

Dielectric Properties of Heavy Ice Ih (D2O Ice)

Shuji Kawada1979-12-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

Dielectric anisotropy of heavy ice Ih is examined in a wide temperature range by measuring the complex dielectric constants parallel and normal to the c axis, and it is compared with that of ordinary ice Ih (H 2 O ice). The increased anisotropy in the static dielectric constants including only the shift of the extrapo…

Relations between melting point, glass transition temperature, and thermal expansion for inorganic crystals and glasses

L. G. Van Uitert1979-12-01Journal of Applied Physics

Expansion is diminished by the presence of various internal degrees of freed…
