Universality of the Hall-effect anisotropy in decagonal quasicrystals

Wang Yun-ping、Zhang Dian-lin、L. F. Chen1993-10-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Careful studies on single decagonal quasicrystals show that the anisotropy of the Hall coefficient ${\mathit{R}}_{\mathit{H}}$ is quite universal for these structures. ${\mathit{R}}_{\mathit{H}}$ changes sign when the magnetic field rotates by 90\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} from the tenfold axis. In both cases,…

Electron transfer reactions at CdS semiconductor cluster interfaces. Adsorption and microenvironment effects on oxidative reactions

J. R. Cowdery-Corvan、David G. Whitten、George McLendon1993-10-01Chemical Physics

CdS clusters in the quantized size regime (≈ 30 Å radius) have been synthesized in several media, including homogeneous organic solution, reverse micelles, and polymers (carboxymethylamylose). Particle size is controlled by the medium, but the photophysical properties of the clusters, as prepared, do not depend strong…

Electrochemical Studies of the Mechanism of the Formation of Metal‐TCNQ Charge‐Transfer Complex Film

Hailing Duan、Dwaine O. Cowan、J. Krüger1993-10-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Switching and memory storage thin films constructed from metallorganic charge‐transfer complexes, such as Cu + TCNQ − , can be prepared by reacting metals directly with organic acceptors in an acetonitrile solution. SEM and electrochemical methods were used to study the formation process of Cu + TCNQ − films on Cu sub…

The stability diagram of a nematic liquid crystal confined to a cylindrical cavity

Samo Kralj、S. Žumer1993-10-01Liquid Crystals

Different nematic structures confined to a long cylindrical cavity with homeotropic surface anchoring are studied using a numerical minimization of the free energy of the uniaxial nematic liquid crystal. The stability of escaped radial structures and planar polar structures (with and without line defects) is analysed…

Development of a Constitutive Theory for Short Fiber Yams

Ning Pan1993-10-01Textile Research Journal

This article deals with the effects of fiber orientation and bending deformation on staple yarn behavior. First, the effect of fiber orientation is shown by comparing yarn properties determined using three different fiber orientation cases. Then, for a given fiber orientation distribution, radial distributions of both…

Transition state stabilization by chloramphenicol acetyltransferase. Role of a water molecule bound to threonine 174.

Ann Lewendon、William V. Shaw1993-10-01Journal of Biological Chemistry

The structure of the type III variant of chloramphenicol acetyltransferase reveals that Thr-174, a conserved residue, is hydrogen-bonded to a bound water molecule (water 252). Modeling studies (P. C. E. Moody and A. G. W. Leslie, unpublished data) suggested that water 252 could play a part in transition state stabiliz…

Fluctuations in the ferrielectric smectic-Cγ* phase as observed by laser beam diffraction and photon correlation spectroscopy

Kouichi Miyachi、Masaaki Kabe、Ken Ishikawa 等 5 位作者1993-10-01Ferroelectrics

We have studied the ferrielectric SmCγ* phase by means of laser beam diffraction and photon correlation spectroscopy. We found that the disordered structure and low frequency fluctuation characteristically distinguish SmCγ* from SmC and SmCA. These phenomena are qualitatively explained by the existing model structure,…

Abstract Spirobenzopyran units were bound to the side chains of poly ( L ‐glutamic acid) and partially methylated poly( L ‐glutamate)s. The modified polymers were found to exhibit “reverse photochromism” in hexafluoro‐2‐propanol (HFP), so the samples kept in the dark were characterized by an intense absorption band in…

Orientational Order in Liquid Crystals: Experiment and Theory

G. R. Luckhurst1993-10-01Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie

Abstract The long range orientational order of a liquid crystal is one of its prime characteristics. Before the extent of this order can be measured, however, it is necessary to define what is meant by the orientational order. This can be achieved in a variety of ways the most pragmatic of which is via the order param…
