Combined Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Progressive Failure of Composites

H. Matthias Deuschle、Falk K. Wittel、Henry Gerhard 等 5 位作者2004-07-06arXiv

The combination of Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation and experimental photo-elasticity provides both qualitative and quantitative information about the stress field in a polymer composite and particularly along the fibre-matrix boundary. Investigations were made using model specimens containing up to five paralle…

Thermal transport in SiC nanostructures

Eleni Ziambaras、Per Hyldgaard2004-07-06arXiv

SiC is a robust semiconductor material considered ideal for high-power application due to its material stability and large bulk thermal conductivity defined by the very fast phonons. In this paper, however, we show that both material-interface scattering and total-internal reflection significantly limit the SiC-nanost…

Thermal Effects in Photoemission and Electron-Phonon Couplings of Fullerene

Andrea Bordoni、Nicola Manini2004-07-06arXiv

We show that thermal effects play a relevant role in the determination of the electron-phonon couplings based on the intensity of the phonon-shakeup peaks in photoemission spectra. In particular, we re-consider the determination of the electron-phonon couplings of fullerene based on a fit of the photoemission spectrum…

Texture and anisotropy

H-R Wenk、P. Van Houtte2004-07-06OpenAlex

A large number of polycrystalline materials, both manmade and natural, display preferred orientation of crystallites. Such alignment has a profound effect on anisotropy of physical properties. Preferred orientation or texture forms during growth or deformation and is modified during recrystallization or phase transfor…

Rational Syntheses of Novel Linear Chain Rhodium(I)–Semiquinonato Complexes Using Redox Reaction of Rh4(CO)12 Cluster with o-Benzoquinone Derivatives

Minoru Mitsumi、Shunsuke Umebayashi、Yoshiki Ozawa 等 6 位作者2004-07-05Chemistry Letters

Abstract Redox reactions of dodecacarbonyltetrarhodium(0), Rh4(CO)12, with 9,10-phenanthraquinone derivatives gave novel one-dimensional rhodium(I)–semiquinonato complexes. Two typical linear chain structures with direct Rh–Rh contacts were determined by X-ray crystal structure analyses of the compounds.

A quantitative evaluation of the deformation texture predictions for aluminium alloys from crystal plasticity finite element method

Saiyi Li、Paul Van Houtte、Surya R. Kalidindi2004-07-05Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering

Crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) models are useful tools in modelling the anisotropic stress–strain responses in large deformation of polycrystalline metals. In this study, a CPFE model is applied to simulate the evolution of crystallographic textures during cold rolling of hot-rolled aluminium plates and duri…

Nanoparticle‐Assisted Growth of Porous Germanium Thin Films

Jiann Shieh、Hsuen‐Li Chen、Tsung‐Shine Ko 等 5 位作者2004-07-05Advanced Materials

Porous Ge thin films (see Figure) have been prepared using low-pressure, inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition. Au nanoparticles are used as catalysts to initiate the protrusion of Ge nanotips from the surface of the substrate. After removing the catalysts during growth, the Ge nanotips coalesce togethe…

Morphosynthesis of Molecular Magnetic Materials

Erik Dujardin、Stephen Mann2004-07-05Advanced Materials

Abstract Although molecule‐based materials can combine physical and chemical properties associated with molecular‐scale building blocks, their successful integration into real applications depends also on higher‐order properties, such as crystal size, shape, and organization. New approaches involving templating and se…

A Novel and Simple In‐Situ Reduction Route for the Synthesis of an Ultra‐Thin Metal Nanocoating in the Channels of Mesoporous Silica Materials

Li Li、Jianlin Shi、Lingxia Zhang 等 5 位作者2004-07-05Advanced Materials

The synthesis and characterization of an ultra-thin palladium nanocoating in the channels of a mesoporous silica material, designated as Pd-SBA, is described. In the preparation of this new material, Si–H functional groups were introduced directly into the channel of an SBA-15 mesoporous material, eventually resulting…

Mesoporous and Homothetic Silica Capsules in Reverse‐Emulsion Microreactors

Giulia Fornasieri、Stéphane Badaire、Rénal Backov 等 6 位作者2004-07-05Advanced Materials

A process to synthesize silica mesoporous capsules is reported (see Figure), where mineralization takes place at the oil–water interface of reverse emulsion droplets. The capsules exhibit an homothetic morphology. Simple scaling analysis reveals that mineralization takes place above a well-defined hydrolyzed precursor…

Resonant Quantum Tunneling in a New Tetranuclear Iron(III)‐Based Single‐Molecule Magnet

M. Moragues‐Cánovas、Éric Rivière、Louis Ricard 等 8 位作者2004-07-05Advanced Materials

Complexing deprotonated trihydromethylethane with iron(III) leads to the formation of a tetranuclear iron cluster (see Figure) with a S = 5 spin ground state and a appreciable magnetic anisotropy. Low-temperature investigations demonstrate single molecule magnet behavior and resonant tunneling within the ground state.

A unique method of material synthesis based on vacuum co-deposition is reported. A Eu complex was formed by co-deposition of bis(dipivaloymethanato)europium (Eu(DPM)3) and 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BCP), which both showed excellent volatility during vacuum deposition. Photoexcitation of the BCP le…
