Alkaline dissolution monitoring of sea–island type polyester microfibre fabrics by a cationic dye staining method

Joonseok Koh2004-03-01Coloration Technology

The alkaline dissolution behaviour of sea–island type polyester microfibres were successfully monitored using a cationic dye staining method. Weight reduction behaviour of the alkali‐treated microfibre fabrics and the treated fabrics stained with cationic dye were investigated in a comparative manner. The termination…

Effect of Physical Foaming Agents on the Viscosity of Various Polyolefin Resins

Richard Gendron、Michel Champagne2004-03-01Journal of Cellular Plastics

The effect of temperature and type of physical foaming agent (HCFC-142b, n-pentane, and carbon dioxide) on the shear viscosity have been investigated for various types of polyolefin resins (PP, LLDPE, and HDPE). The viscosity changes have been monitored using a commercial on-line process control rheometer mounted on a…

J.N. Baena、R. Marqués、J. Martel 等 4 位作者2004-03-01OpenAlex

The recently proposed split ring resonator (SRR) loaded waveguide as a simulator of a left-handed medium (LHM) is extended to the simulation of negative magnetic permeability media (NMPM) and used for the study of wave propagation in these media. The experimental results are compared with those provided by the discret…

Characterization of iron containing alumina supported catalysts was performed by transmission electron microcopy (TEM), Mo/spl uml/ssbauer, and XPS spectroscopy during formation of multiwall carbon nanotubes from acetylene at 1000 K. TEM images showed that carbon fibers (outer diameter is around 20-40 nm) were generat…

Chaouqi Misbah、François Renard、Jean‐Pierre Gratier 等 4 位作者2004-03-01Geophysical Research Letters

A kinetic study including dissolution process and diffusion of the dissolved molecules for a stressed solid in contact with its solution is analyzed. We estimate a condition fixing the prevailing dissipation mechanism and analyze it with a linear stability criterion. This criterion depends on which process is limiting…

Numerical Modeling of Thermobonded Nonwovens

Dieter H. Mueller、Markus Kochmann2004-03-01International Nonwovens Journal

In thermobonded nonwovens, the design of the bond point geometry is of major importance to the desired mechanical behavior. Despite the geometry's significance the selection is subject to a trial and error approach. This paper describes a numerical method for the prediction of the nonwovens tensile behavior depending…

Mineralogy and chemistry of natrolite from Jordan

Khalil Ibrahim2004-03-01Clay Minerals

ABSTRACT: A natrolite-cemented palagonite ash tuff unit is reported in a palaeo-basin in northeast Jordan. Phillipsite and chabazite are also identified. The zeolites were formed due to transformation of volcanic glass granules into palagonite by the reaction with percolating water in a closed hydrological system. Con…

Effect of Alloying Elements on the Susceptibility to Sulfide Stress Cracking of Line Pipe Steels

Seong Ung Koh、Boo Young Yang、K. Y. Kim2004-03-01CORROSION

The effects of alloying elements (Cu-Ni, Mo, and Ti) in line pipe steels on the susceptibility to sulfide stress cracking (SSC) was studied with respect to hydrogen permeation, crack nucleation, and crack propagation. The SSC susceptibility was evaluated using a constant elongation rate test (CERT) method in a NACE St…

Deposition and Wetting Characteristics of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers on Plasma-Modified Porous Polyethylene

George W. Greene、George C. Yao、Rina Tannenbaum2004-03-01Langmuir

Hydrophilic and chemically reactive porous media were prepared by adsorbing functional polymers at the surface of sintered polyethylene membranes. Modification of the membrane was accomplished by first exposing the membrane to an oxygen glow discharge gas plasma to introduce an electrostatic charge at the membrane sur…

Abstract Supported molybdena catalysts, with TiO 2 , CeO 2 and Al 2 O 3 supports, were studied by XPS and ISS. It was found that reliable results are obtained only when samples are calcined and transferred into the ultrahigh vacuum system without further contact with the ambient atmosphere (‘ in situ calcination’). An inherently safer process of cyclohexane oxidation using pure oxygen—An example of how better process safety leads to better productivity

Jenq‐Renn Chen2004-03-01Process Safety Progress

Abstract This paper discusses how detailed studies on flammability at elevated pressures and temperatures can be applied to liquid‐phase oxidation of cyclohexane using air/oxygen and lead to an inherently safer process with better productivity. Flammability tests of cyclohexane/oxygen vapor and vapor bubbles under act…

We measured the angles produced in the Plateau border region of ‘dry’ soap films. In a simple experimental geometry, we demonstrated that a negative line tension can be attributed to these regions. This result has important consequences for the theoretical description of foams approaching the dry limit.

Solubility of Silver and Palladium in BaTiO 3

Shao‐Ju Shih、Wei‐Hsing Tuan2004-03-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Silver, palladium, and their alloys are frequently used as electrode materials for BaTiO 3 (BT) based dielectrics. However, the electrodes and dielectrics usually are cofired at high temperatures, and silver and palladium can dissolve into the BT during cofiring. In the present study, the solubility of silver and pall…

Instrumentation for Studies of Electron Emission and Charging From Insulators

Clint Thomson、V. V. Zav’yalov、JR Dennison2004-03-01Digital Commons - USU (Utah State University)

In addition, high incident energies or high fluences can result in modification of a material’s conductivity, bulk and surface charge profile, st…

Determining the Absorption Properties of Split-Type Microfiber Fabrics by Measuring the Change in Color Depth

Jae‐Hyung Lee、Seong Hun Kim、Kwang Ju Lee 等 5 位作者2004-03-01Textile Research Journal

When a textile material absorbs a liquid, its color appears deeper than that when it is dry because of the difference in reflectance. The difference in the diffuse reflection between the air and the liquid leads to a difference in color depth between the dry and wet conditions. Using this observation, it is possible t…
