The effect of annealing on slow crack growth in an ethylene‐hexene copolymer

Xiuzhen Lu、R. Qian、A. R. McGhie 等 4 位作者1992-07-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract A quenched ethylene‐hexene copolymer was annealed in the temperature range of 86 to 127°C. The morphological changes were monitored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and density. The slow crack growth resistance tested at 80°C was a maximum at an annealing temperature of 113°C and a minimum of 123°C.…

XPS analysis of thin chromium films

K. Petkov、V. Krastev、Ts. Marinova1992-07-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract The surface and mechanical properties of thin Cr films play an essential role in microphotolithographic processes in which an inorganic photoresist based on vacuum‐evaporated As 2 S 3 is used as a light‐sensitive system. The present paper reports some XPS data about thin chromium layers obtained by thermal ev…

Analysis of Elastomer Vulcanizate Composition by TG-DTG Techniques

A. K. Sircar1992-07-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract Two common problems and probable solutions in the TG-DTG analysis of unknown elastomer vulcanizates have been discussed. The first problem concerns the difficulty in quantitatively determining the oil and elastomer in compounds where their volatilization temperature ranges overlap. After a review of the publi…

Defect models in electron-irradiated n-type GaAs

B. S. Ziebro、J. W. Hemsky、D. C. Look1992-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

1 MeV electron irradiation has been performed in degenerate, n-type (n≂2×1017 cm−3), molecular beam epitaxial GaAs layers, and Hall effect measurements have been carried out during the irradiation in order to get accurate defect production data. The results have been fitted with statistical models, and are most consis…

Mechanism for Barnacle-Induced Crevice Corrosion in Stainless Steel

M. Eashwar、G. Subramanian、P. Chandrasekaran 等 4 位作者1992-07-01CORROSION

The intrinsic susceptibility of stainless steels to corrosive attack by barnacles is a widely recognized phenomenon. Corrosion usually manifests itself in crevices, corresponding to the base of the barnacles’ shell. The purpose of this investigation was to elucidate a mechanism for this corrosion phenomenon. Based on…

Geometrical anchoring at an inclined surface of a liquid crystal

Oleg D. Lavrentovich1992-07-01Physical Review A

The free energy of a nematic film, placed between two isotropic media, does not depend on the azimuthal angle if the two interfaces are parallel. It is shown that in the general case of nonparallel bounding, a particular value of the azimuthal orientation is energetically preferable. The directions of this geometrical…

Anodic Behavior of Copper in Weakly Alkaline Solutions

Desmond Tromans、Ru‐hong Sun1992-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The anodic polarization behavior of copper was studied in the pH range 9.4 to 10.8, where pH was controlled (buffered) by additions of either borate, bicarbonate/carbonate, ammonia, or sodium hydroxide. Several solutions contained either 1 M sulfate, 1 M chloride, or 5 M chloride. Passivation effects were observed in…
