Latent Property of Defect-Controlled Metal Oxide: Nonstoichiometric Titanium Oxides as Prospective Material for High-Temperature Thermoelectric Conversion

Noriyuki Okinaka、Tomohiro Akiyama2006-09-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

The thermoelectric properties of a nonstoichiometric titanium oxide (TiO 1.1 ) are investigated in terms of materials for high-temperature thermoelectric conversion. The electrical conductivity σ of TiO 1.1 increases to 9000 S/m at 800 °C showing semiconducting behavior. The Seebeck coefficient α of TiO 1.1 shows a ge…

Coexistence of Large Thermopower and Degenerate Doping in the Nanostructured Material Ag0.85SnSb1.15Te3

John Androulakis、Robert Pcionek、Éric Quarez 等 11 位作者2006-09-01Chemistry of Materials

Ag1-xSnSb1+xTe3 presents a rare combination of large positive thermoelectric power response coexisting with an almost metallic carrier concentration. It is proposed that this unusual state arises from a high effective mass for the hole carriers which may derive from nanostructuring in the material.

Microstructure and magnetic properties of SmCo5 thin films deposited on Cu and Pt underlayers

Y. K. Takahashi、Tadakatsu Ohkubo、K. Hono2006-09-01Journal of Applied Physics

The microstructure of the SmCo5 thin films sputter deposited on Cu underlayers was investigated to explain the high coercivity Hc. Energy filtered elemental map and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy line analysis showed that Cu diffused into the SmCo5 layer to form a Sm(Co,Cu)5 solid solution. Composition fluctuati…

DyMnO 3 single crystals of hexagonal modification were grown for the first time by zone melting, and their anisotropic magnetic properties were studied in detail. At T ∼ 7 K, a small uncompensated magnetic moment (∼1 μ B per formula unit) is shown to occur along the hexagonal axis. At temperatures 7–45 K, a transition…
