Freely Suspended Gold Nanoparticle Arrays

Chaoyang Jiang、Sergiy Markutsya、Hennady P. Shulha 等 4 位作者2005-07-01Advanced Materials

Freely suspended gold nanoparticle arrays have been fabricated by encapsulation into layer-by-layer nanomembranes. Such nanomembranes (see Figure) retain outstanding micromechanical properties and have an anisotropic mechanical response due to the uniformly oriented nanoparticle-containing stripes. Periodic variation…

Embedding Small Specimens for TEM Examination

Paul Webster2005-07-01Microscopy Today

Abstract When preparing specimens for TEM analysis, it is important that specimens routinely be large enough to manipulate with forceps and cohesive enough to hold together as a single entity. However, anyone working in EM will have some specimens that are too small to see or centrifuged pellets that easily fall apart…

On Infrared Intensities of Spinel, MgAl2O4

Isao Kanesaka、Yuichi Hayashi、Yoshiyuki Morioka2005-07-01Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Abstract In spinel (MgAl2O4), the strongest infrared band at 485 cm−1 shows less LO–TO splitting than the medium band at 670 cm−1. This unexpected relationship is explained in terms of the vibrational coupling of these TO modes. A new manner for evaluating the LO mode is proposed.

David P. Field、Matthew M. Nowell、P. B. Trivedi 等 5 位作者2005-07-01Diffusion and defect data, solid state data. Part B, Solid state phenomena/Solid state phenomena

The texture and grain boundary structure of recrystallized materials is dependent upon the character of the deformed matrix, and the selective nucleation and growth of crystallites from the deformation structure. Proper description of the deformed matrix includes not only local crystallite lattice orientation, but als…

V. Pershina2005-07-01Radiochimica Acta

Abstract Fully relativistic, four-component, density functional theory calculations (4c-DFT) were performed for [MO 4 (OH) 2 ] 2- and Na 2 [MO 4 (OH) 2 ], where M=Ru, Os, and Hs. The electronic structure of the Hs complex ion was shown to be similar to that of the Os complex ion, though [HsO 4 (OH) 2 ] 2- should be mo…

Thermoelectric [Sr2(Bi,Co)n−2On]RS[CoO2]1.8 layer cobaltites: The role of the intergrowth between the n=3 and n=4 terms

Y. Klein、D. Pelloquin、S. Hébert 等 5 位作者2005-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

The Bi–Sr–Co–O system has been investigated for small bismuth contents in order to study the formation of the misfit oxide series built up from the stacking of three rocksalt-type layers (n=3) with a single CdI2-type CoO2 hexagonal layer. Starting from nominal compositions, written as [Sr2Co1−xBixO3]RS[CoO2]1.8 (x=0.1…

A Local Strictly Nondecreasing Material Law for Modeling Softening and Size-Effect: a Discrete Approach

Elena Ferretti2005-07-01Archivio istituzionale della ricerca (Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna)

In this study nonlocality is discussed with regard to the differential and discrete formulations. Here, nonlocality is found to be a concept attaining not to the description of the material, but to the governing equations. This has made it possible to discuss the op-portunity of introducing nonlocality in the constitu…

High-temperature Mossbauer study of Fe-substituted mullite

Daniel Emil Mack2005-07-01American Mineralogist

Mössbauer spectra of Fe-substituted 3/2-mullite (10.3 wt% Fe 2 O 3 ) have been measured from room temperature up to 1200 °C under nitrogen atmosphere. A Voigt-type fit to the spectral line shape is proposed that is based on the assumption of three non-equivalent Fe 3+ environments A, B, and C in the mullite structure.…
