AlNの焼結に及ぼす各種添加物の影響を30種の添加物を用いて検討した. その結果, 添加物の内アルカリ土類属又は希土類酸化物がAlNとの相反応により窒素を含むアルミネート相を生成し, これがAlNのち密化を促進して理論密度焼結を達成することが確認された. 焼結体の微細組織は上記のち密化が液相焼結に起因していることを示した. 一方Si化合物はAlNポリタイプのようなより耐熱性の高い化合物を生成しち密化を阻害した.
