A Study of the Calcium Oxide–Water Vapor System by Means of the Transpiration Method

Kazutoshi Matsumoto、Toshiyuki SATA1981-03-01Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Abstract The system of calcium oxide and water vapor was studied using the transpiration method. Under the conditions of a temperature range from 1678 to 2016 K and PH2O values from 1.2×10−2 to 4.7×10−1 atm, the predominant reaction in this system was found to be CaO(s)+H2O(g)=Ca(OH)2(g). The standard Gibbs free energ…

Low oxygen processing of SmCo5 magnets

K.S.V.L. Narasimhan1981-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

A low oxygen processing technique was developed for the manufacture of SmCo5 and temperature compensated magnets. Improvement in the magnetic field orientation monitored by Schulz pole figure technique and the controlled oxygen processing resulted in SmCo5 magnets with energy products of 25–28 MGOe. The temperature de…

Effect of Electrical Stimulation on Thermal Shrinkage Temperature of Bovine Muscle Collagen

M. D. Judge、E. S. Reeves、E. D. Aberle1981-03-01Journal of Animal Science

The effect of beef carcass electrical stimulation on the thermal stability of intramuscular collagen was determined. Differential scanning calorimetric determinations of thermal shrinkage temperature revealed that electrical stimulation lowered the shrinkage temperature of collagen by an average of .6 C in the populat…

Comparison of five models of spherical bubble response in an inviscid compressible liquid

G. J. Lastman、R. A. Wentzell1981-03-01The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America

The response of a spherical bubble in an inviscid compressible liquid is studied for five different bubble models. It is shown that the qualitative behavior of the models is essentially the same, even under intense cavitation conditions. The quantitative behavior is similar, especially for low Mach numbers.

Triplet Spin Excitons in a Sigma-Bonded TCNQ Dimer Salt: N-Ethylphenazinium TCNQ, (NEP+)2(TCNQ−-TCNQ−)

Ralf H. Harms、H. J. Keller、D. Nöthe 等 8 位作者1981-03-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

The title compound NEP-TCNQ crystallizes with θ-bonded (TCNQ−-TCNQ−)-dimers. We show by model calculations and ESR spectroscopy, that these bonds can be broken by thermal activation. The reverse reaction occurs spontaneously. The excited states are characterized as quasi immobilized triplet spin excitons (TSE) localiz…

Abstract The X-ray photoelectron spectrum of the powder of Cr2O5 was measured and compared with those of the related chromium compounds. It is concluded that Cr2O5 is a mixed-valence compound having Cr3+ and Cr6+ ions, possibly with the ratio of 1 : 2.

Green's-function theory of phase transitions in the hydrogen-bonded PbHPO4-type ferroelectrics with pseudospin model

B. K. Chaudhuri、Suvra Ganguli、D. Nath1981-03-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

In this paper the pseudo-spin-lattice-coupled-mode (PLCM) model has been extended to study the static and the dynamic properties of PbHP${\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ and its deuterated form PbDP${\mathrm{O}}_{4}$. Using a double-time temperature-dependent Green's-function technique, we have derived the expressions for the transi…

Microstructure and texture of cold-rolled Cu-10Zn brass

P. T. Wakefield、M. Hatherly1981-03-01Metal Science

Optical, X-ray, and electron metallography have been used to examine the substructures and textures developed in 90–10 brass after rolling reductions from 18 to 96%. The substructures formed in this alloy, which has an intermediate value of stacking fault energy, have been found to be orientation dependent. In some re…

We present a theory for the late-stage spinodal decomposition for two relaxational tricritical models in which the order parameter is nonconserved and the subsidiary order parameter is either conserved or nonconserved. We find that for $d$-dimensional systems (for $d>1$) the characteristic domain size grows in prop…

A structural model for B2O3 glass

R. J. Bell、Arianna Carnevale1981-03-01Philosophical Magazine B

The structural characteristics of four random network models of B2O3 glass are discussed, and their computed X-ray radial distribution functions are compared with experiment. A random network based on the boroxol ring hypothesis gives marginally the best agreement with the observed distribution function at low interat…

Flammability resistance synergism in BPA polycarbonate–silicone block polymers

R. P. Kambour1981-03-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The synergism in limiting oxygen index found in BPA carbonate–dimethylsiloxane block polymers (BPAC/DMS) is correlated with a rise in yield of pyrolytic char and an improvement in char oxidation resistance. These changes in turn are related to a peaking of fractional silicon retention in the char at a resin c…
