2002-01-01Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan

The oxidation behavior of reduced CeO2 and CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution (CZS) was studied by measuring the weight and temperature change during oxidization, in the near-room-temperature range. A flaming oxidation at close to room temperature was observed in some of the reduced CZS. This oxidation takes place in the CZS re…

Molecular Dynamics Study of Structure and Mechanical Properties of Grain Boundaries in Nanocrystalline Materials.

Tomotsugu SHIMOKAWA、Akihiro NAKATANI、Hiroshi Kitagawa2002-01-01TRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series A

Grain boundary (GB) structures of Al nanopolycrystalline (NPC) materials and their mechanical properties are studied by using molecular dynamics simulation. An embedded atom method (Mishin et al. 1999) is adopted to describe the interatomic interaction. First, bicrystal models are studied to evaluate the GB energies,…

The Effect of Plasticity on Process-Zone Predictions of DHC Initiation at a Flaw in CANDU Reactor Zr-Nb Pressure Tubes

Douglas A. Scarth、Ted Smith2002-01-01OpenAlex

Delayed Hydride Cracking (DHC) in Zr-2.5 Nb alloy material is of interest to the CANDU industry in the context of the potential to initiate DHC at a blunt flaw in a CANDU reactor pressure tube. The material is susceptible to DHC when there is diffusion of hydrogen atoms to the flaw, precipitation of hydride platelets,…

Rapid thermal oxidation and quenching in liquid nitrogen (RTOQN) has been examined on anodized porous silicon (PS). The as-anodized PS samples exhibit a photoluminescence peak at 750 nm that decays instantaneously upon discontinuance of 325-nm He–Cd laser irradiation. In contrast, PS samples after RTOQN show a lumines…

INFLUENCE OF THE INTERNAL LAYER CRACKS ON THE CRACKING OF FLEXURAL THREE-LAYER CONCRETE MEMBERS

Gediminas Marčiukaitis、Linas Juknevičius2002-01-01Journal of Civil Engineering and Management

Three-layer structures made of concrete-type materials usually have an internal layer of a less strength, which serves as thermal insulation and makes the structure more light. Therefore cracks may appear in the internal layer of a bended structure earlier than in the external tensile layer. This paper deals with an i…

Heparinization is believed to be one of the methods to suppress thrombus formation on blood-contacting surfaces. However, this study hypothesizes that heparinization alone might not be sufficient to provide a blood-compatible surface; that is, a surface property that resists biofouling is necessary to obtain an effect…
