A novel approach to highly ordered and modular nanoelectrode arrays (NEAs) has been developed using block copolymer self-assembly. Variable scan rate cyclic voltammetry studies were performed to characterize the NEA. At low scan rates, the NEA behaves similar to a macroelectrode, while at high scan rates the nanoelect…

Catherine Marquié2001-09-14Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry

Amino acids involved in cottonseed protein cross-linking by formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, and glyoxal during protein film formation were identified by an original technique. The entire HPLC amino acid profile (after acid hydrolysis) was studied, along with variations in reactive lysine contents, in films cross-linked…

Kinetics of coherent order-disorder transition in $Al_3 Zr$

Laurent Proville、Alphonse Finel2001-09-14arXiv

Within a phase field approach which takes the strain-induced elasticity into account, the kinetics of the coherent order-disorder transition is investigated for the specific case of $Al_3 Zr$ alloy. It is shown that a microstructure with cubic $L1_2$ precipitates appears as a transient state during the decomposition o…

A Microscopic Basis for the Global Appearance of Energy Landscapes

David J. Wales2001-09-14Science

It is shown that the appearance of a multidimensional potential energy surface, or potential energy landscape, can be related to the form of the interatomic or intermolecular potential. Catastrophe theory enables us to describe how the geometry of the surface changes with parameters in the potential, and provides univ…

Optical channel waveguide in chalcogenide (Ga:La:S)glass

A.K. Mairaj、A. Fu、H.N. Rutt 等 4 位作者2001-09-13Electronics Letters

A novel method for fabricating optical channel waveguides in Ga:La:S chalcogenide glass, through continuous wave direct UV laser writing (λ = 244 nm) is reported. Well-formed singlemode channel structures, with low propagation losses of 0.38 ± 0.05 dB/cm at 1.3 µm, were engineered using this technique.

The vibrational density of states and specific heat of Si nanocrystals

Xinhua Hu、Guozhong Wang、Weimin Wu 等 5 位作者2001-09-13Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The vibrational density of states and phonon specific heat of Si nanocrystals are studied by means of a lattice dynamical calculation. The vibrational density of states of Si nanocrystals is distinct from the bulk one at low and high frequencies owing to the finite-size effect. At low frequencies there is an excess of…

Off-centre displacements and ferroelectric phase transition in dilute KTa1-xNbxO3

Yakov Girshberg、Y. Yacoby2001-09-13Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

We present a theory of the Nb-ion off-centre displacements and ferroelectric phase transition in dilute KTa 1- x Nb x O 3 . We believe that this theory is generally applicable to ferroelectric transitions in incipient ferroelectrics induced by impurities. We show that the non-uniform strong intraband electron-phonon i…

Graft copolymers from star‐shaped and hyperbranched polystyrene macromonomers

Hasan A. Al‐Muallem、Daniel M. Knauss2001-09-13Journal of Polymer Science Part A Polymer Chemistry

Abstract Branched polystyrene macromonomers were synthesized by the slow addition of a stoichiometric amount of either 4‐(chlorodimethylsilyl)styrene or vinylbenzyl chloride as a coupling agent to living polystyryllithium. Star‐shaped macromonomers were produced by the addition of the coupling agent alone, and hyperbr…

John Forsyth、Teresa Scrivani、Rosario Benavente 等 5 位作者2001-09-13Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract A range of ethylene/norbornene copolymers were synthesized using the commercially available rac ‐Et(Ind) 2 ZrCl 2 metallocene catalyst. A large window of norbornene contents, between 30 and 55 mol % was used to facilitate the interpretation of the results. The polymers were characterized by means of wide‐angl…
