Collective Character of Spin Excitations in a System ofMn2+Spins Coupled to a Two-Dimensional Electron Gas

F. J. Terán、M. Potemski、D. K. Maude 等 10 位作者2003-08-11Physical Review Letters

We have studied the low energy spin excitations in n-type CdMnTe based dilute magnetic semiconductor quantum wells. For magnetic fields for which the energies for the excitation of free carriers and Mn spins are almost identical, an anomalously large Knight shift is observed. Our findings suggest the existence of a ma…

Probabilistic scoring measures for profile–profilecomparison yield more accurate short seed alignments

David Mittelman、Ruslan I. Sadreyev、Nick V. Grishin2003-08-11Bioinformatics

MOTIVATION: The development of powerful automatic methods for the comparison of protein sequences has become increasingly important. Profile-to-profile comparisons allow for the use of broader information about protein families, resulting in more sensitive and accurate comparisons of distantly related sequences. A key…

Diffraction efficiency of a holographic grating in a liquid-crystal cell composed of asymmetrically patterned electrodes

Wei Lee、Hsu-Chih Chen2003-08-11Nanotechnology

The diffraction efficiency as a function of the externally applied voltage exhibits an unusual trend for a holographic grating written in a nanotube-doped liquid-crystal cell composed of two glass substrates with asymmetric patterns of filmy transparent indium–tin oxide. Experimental evidence suggests that output ener…

Satoshi Koizumi、Masayuki Nihei、Hiroki Oshio2003-08-11Chemistry Letters

Abstract Reactions of NiCl2·6H2O and Ni(CH3COO)2·4H2O with tridentate ligand yielded di- and trinuclear nickel(II) complexes of [Ni2(HL1)2Cl2(MeOH)2] (1) and [Ni3(HL2)2(CH3COO)4(MeOH)2] (2) (H2L1 = N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)ethanolamine), H2L2 = N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)propanolamine), respectively; the magnetic susceptibility mea…

Liming Shen、Luchun Guo、Ningzhong Bao 等 4 位作者2003-08-11Chemistry Letters

Abstract By adopting a room-temperature grinding of the zinc acetate–oxalic acid powder mixture and a subsequent thermal decomposition reaction, agglomerated ZnO nanocrystals with diameters of 15–40 nm were prepared. By adding NaCl in the whole process, well-dispersed ZnO nanocrystals with diameters of 3–4 nm, showing…

Marine prosthecate bacteria involved in the ennoblement of stainless steel

Paul Baker、Kimio Ito、Kazuya Watanabe2003-08-11Environmental Microbiology

Ennoblement, a phenomenon in which open-circuit potential is elevated to a noble value, triggers metal corrosion in the environment and is considered to be biologically catalysed. This study investigated the involvement of marine microorganisms in the ennoblement of stainless steel coupons in sea water pumped from Kam…

Polypyrrole–metal Coil Composites as Fibrous Artificial Muscles

Susumu Hara、Tetsuji Zama、Shingo Sewa 等 5 位作者2003-08-11Chemistry Letters

Abstract A polypyrrole deposited electrochemically on tungsten coil showed 11.6% strain and 0.20 N force induced electrochemically. The W coil significantly reduced iR drop of the PPy, resulting in improving performance of the actuator. The fibrelike structure was suitable for applications of artificial muscles.

Lanying Li、Bozhi Tian、Chengzhong Yu 等 7 位作者2003-08-11Chemistry Letters

Abstract Well-patterned crystalline nanowire arrays of binary compound metal sulfides, CdS, ZnS, and In2S3, were synthesized for the first time employing a simple impregnation reaction procedure from two separate precursors (metal and sulfur precursors) using mesoporous SBA-15 as a hard template.

Adhesion study of polyimide to single-wall carbon nanotube bundles by energy-filtered transmission electron microscopy

Cheol Park、R. Crooks、Emilie J. Siochi 等 6 位作者2003-08-11Nanotechnology

High-resolution electron microscopy and energy-filtered imaging methods were used to examine single-wall carbon nanotubes and nanotube reinforced polyimide composites. The nanotubes were studied alone, in a polyimide matrix composite, and after deposition of composite material previously dissolved in a solvent. Energy…

Inorganic surface passivation of PbS nanocrystals resulting in strong photoluminescent emission

Moreno-Cuevas Jorge E、Andrew A. R. Watt、Jamie H. Warner 等 6 位作者2003-08-11Nanotechnology

Strong photoluminescent emission has been obtained from 3 nm PbS nanocrystals in aqueous colloidal solution, following treatment with CdS precursors. The observed emission can extend across the entire visible spectrum and usually includes a peak near 1.95 eV. We show that much of the visible emission results from abso…

Debangshu Chaudhuri、Prashanth W. Menezes、D. D. Sarma2003-08-10arXiv

We show that the recently synthesized BF3-doped polyaniline (PANI) exhibits remarkable stability against thermal ageing. Unlike the protonated PANI, which shows rapid degradation of the conductivity on heating in air, BF3-doped PANI shows more than an order of magnitude improvement in conductivity. We employ x-ray pho…
