Structural changes induced in tussah silk (Antheraea pernyi) fibroin films by immersion in methanol

Masuhiro Tsukada1986-06-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract The crystalline transition induced by immersion in a methanol/water mixture of tussah silk fibroin (from Antheraea pernyi ) film obtained by casting from a 1% solution was studied by x‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and infrared spectroscopy. The molecular conformation of the fibroin, con…

Nonlocal Electric Field and Large Distortions in Nematic Liquid Crystals

I. Dozov、G. Barbero、Jean‐François Palierne 等 4 位作者1986-06-01Europhysics Letters (EPL)

In a distorted nematic texture, with boundaries at fixed potential, the electric field is nonlocal. This allows in particular the flexoelectric effect to give a volume contribution. Most calculations predicting large distortions must be revised.

THE ORGANIC MATRIX FROM OYSTER SHELL AS A REGULATOR OF CALCIFICATIONIN VIVO

C. Steven Sikes、A. P. Wheeler1986-06-01Biological Bulletin

Exogenously supplied, C-l4 labeled organic matrix from oyster shell inhibited spicule formation by embryos of the sea urchin, Arbacia punctulata, as measured by simultaneous incorporation of inorganic C-14. Analysis of isolated spicules showed that the matrix reached the site of crystal growth and became incorporated…

Abstract The Morphology of quenched poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films crystallized by low‐molecular‐weight organic penetrants is studied by scanning electron microscopy. Films with thicknesses from ca. 1 mil (0.0025 cm) to ca. 35 mil (0.1 cm) were exposed to methylene chloride (MeCl 2 ) and N , N ‐dimethylforma…

S. M. Ho、K.C. Radford1986-06-01Nuclear Technology

The percent theoretical density, lattice parameter, oxygen-to-uranium ratio, and thermal conductivity of UO2-Gd2O3 burnable absorber fuel pellets were analyzed in terms of the structural chemistry of the cubic fluorite lattice and the chemical behavior of various uranium cations. The sinterability of gadolinia-contain…

Variable kinetics of silicon-limited growth inThalassiosira pseudonana(Bacillariophyceae) in response to changed chemical composition of the growth medium

Stig Runar Malerød Olsen、E. Paasche1986-06-01British Phycological Journal

The diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana Hasle & Heimdal was grown in batch culture in one artificial sea-water medium and one fresh-water medium over a range of orthosilicic acid concentrations. Growth rates and cellular silicon quotas were measured in the exponential growth phase. The half-saturation constant of silicon-…

M. P. Fontana、B. Rosi、Н. Киров 等 4 位作者1986-06-01Physical Review A

In this paper we report an extensive study of the relevant static and dynamic parameters connected to microscopic order and reorientational motion of single molecules in liquid-crystalline mesophases. In particular, we have studied the temperature dependence of the second- and fourth-order parameters 〈${P}_{2}$〉 and 〈…

57 Fe Mössbauer Spectroscopy of Montmorillonites: A New Interpretation

C. M. Cardile、J.H. Johnston1986-06-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract The 57 Fe Mössbauer spectra of several montmorillonites, measured at room temperature and 453 K, showed a considerably broadened Fe 3+ resonance which can be computer-fitted with a similarly broadened Fe 3+ doublet. In some spectra, particularly if all linewidths were constrained to be equal, this broadened F…

Abstract This paper reports on the gas sorption and transport properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF 2 ) and on the effects uniaxial drawing and processing temperature have on these properties. Sorption and transport were first examined for “as‐received” commercial Kynar PVF 2 film at 35°C. This film was 54% cry…
