The eggshell of Drosophila melanogaster: I. fine structure of the layers and regions of the wild-type eggshell

Lukas H. Margaritis、Fotis C. Kafatos、William H. Petri1980-06-01Journal of Cell Science

The fine structure of the several layers and regional specializations in the Drosophila melanogaster eggshell has been studied by a combination of shell isolation procedures and ultrastructural techniques (conventional TEM, whole-mount TEM, SEM, HVEM, freeze-fracture electron microscopy utilizing rotary replication, s…

Spectroscopic Analysis of the Interface Between Si and Its Thermally Grown Oxide

D. E. Aspnes、J. B. Theeten1980-06-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Spectroscopic ellipsometric data from 1.5–5.8 eV has been analyzed to determine the in situ optical response of the interface between Si and its thermally grown oxide. Results for <100>, <110>, and <111> sample orientations show an interface of width consisting of atomically mixed Si and O of average stoichiometry . T…

The morphotropic phase boundary in PZT solid solutions

S. A. Mabud1980-06-01Journal of Applied Crystallography

PbZrxTi1−xO3 ceramics around the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) have been prepared under different firing conditions using the usual ceramic techniques. The phases of the compounds have been investigated with X-ray diffraction photographs. It has been found that the MPB is not a narrow and vertically straight bound…

Ternary transition metal phosphides: High-temperature superconductors

H. Barz、H. C. Ku、G. P. Meisner 等 5 位作者1980-06-01Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

Two systems of ternary transition metal phosphides with the ordered Fe(2)P-type hexagonal structure are reported. They have the general formula MRuP and MOsP, in which M can be Ti, Zr, or Hf. An onset of the superconducting transition temperature as high as 13.0 K is reported for the ZrRuP compound.

Model of partial crystallization and melting derived from small‐angle X‐ray scattering and electron microscopic studies on low‐density polyethylene

G. Strobl、M. J. Schneider、I. G. Voigt‐Martin1980-06-01OpenAlex

Abstract A temperature‐dependent small‐angle x‐ray scattering and electron microscopic study on a sample of low‐density polyethylene affords a determination of the structure changes in a heating and cooling cycle and suggests a new model of partial crystallization and melting. The analysis of SAXS data is based upon s…

Structural defects in amorphous solids A computer simulation study

T. Egami、Koji Maeda、V. Vítek1980-06-01OpenAlex

A definition of structural defects in amorphous solids in terms of the distribution of the internal stresses on the atomic level and of the symmetry of the environment of individual atoms is introduced. This definition does not require an ideal reference structure. The concept of the internal stresses on the atomic sc…

Dielectric Breakdown Process of Polymers

Masayuki Ieda1980-06-01OpenAlex

Much experimental work has been done on the dielectric breakdown of solid dielectrics, and a number of breakdown theories have been proposed. Many problems, however, still remain on the breakdown process of polymers. Here, the breakdown process of polymers are discussed from the standpoint of the inherent properties o…

Threshold switching in chalcogenide-glass thin films

David Adler、M. S. Shur、M. Silver 等 4 位作者1980-06-01OpenAlex

We discuss bias-induced threshold switching in chalcogenide-glass thin films, with an emphasis on the unique aspects of this phenomenon. The electronic nature of both the ON state and the recovery process is now clear. In this paper, we also establish the fundamentally electronic origin of the initiation process. An i…

Direct evaluation of the electron density correlation function of partially crystalline polymers

G. Strobl、M. J. Schneider1980-06-01OpenAlex

Abstract A discussion of the general properties of the one‐dimensional electron density correlation function K ( z ) of a partially crystalline polymer with lamellar structure shows that application of a graphical extrapolation procedure permits direct determination of the crystallinity, the specific inner surface, an…
