Perforation of thin unreinforced concrete slabs

James Cargile、M. E. Giltrud、V.K. Luk1993-10-01University of North Texas Digital Library (University of North Texas)

This report discusses fourteen tests which were conducted to investigate the perforation of thin unreinforced concrete slabs. The 4340-steel projectile used in the test series is 50.8 mm in diameter, 355.6 mm in length, has a mass of 2.34 kg. and an ogive nose with caliber radius head of 3. The slabs, contained within…

The Catalytic Reduction of Aldehydes and Ketones with 2-Propanol over Silica-Supported Zirconium Catalyst

Kazushige Inada、Makoto Shibagaki、Yukio Nakanishi 等 4 位作者1993-10-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Reduction of aldehydes and ketones with 2-propanol proceeded efficiently over silica-supported zirconium catalyst, and the corresponding alcohols were obtained in high yields. In the reduction of aldehyde, the acetalization did not occur and the side reaction, the aldol condensation, was inhibited.

Weathering of Spodumene to Smectite in a Lateritic Environment

Balbir Singh、R. J. Gilkes1993-10-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract Weathering of spodumene in a lateritized pegmatite in Western Australia was studied by investigating in situ samples by electron-beam techniques. The spodumene had mostly altered to smectite. However, some non-crystalline material adjacent to smectite and intermixed with smectite was also observed. No crystal…

Abstract— Large‐area (12 × 100 cm) flexible displays were successfully fabricated using ferroelectric liquid‐crystalline polymers (FLCPs). The polymers were comb‐shaped and had side chains which consisted of a flexible spacer unit, a rigid core moiety, and an optically active end‐group. These displays are lightweight…

Yosuke Matsumoto、Ken Hirota、Osamu Yamaguchi 等 7 位作者1993-10-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Amorphous Al 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 composite powders with 5–30 mol% ZrO 2 have been prepared by adding aqueous ammonia to the mixed solution of aqueous aluminum sulfate and zirconium alkoxide containing 2‐propanol. Simultaneous crystallization of γ‐Al 2 O 3 and t ‐ZrO 2 occurs at 870°–980°C. The γ‐Al 2 O 3 transforms to α‐Al 2…

Scattering in electron spectrometers, diagnosis and avoidance. I. Concentric hemispherical analysers

M. P. Seah1993-10-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract The unwanted scattering of electrons in electron spectrometers leads to a loss of sensitivity, distortion of the spectral background and problems in calibrating spectrometer intensity/energy transmission functions. Here we develop three methods to analyse the extent of the contribution and how to reduce it to…

Relation of growth and equilibrium crystal shapes

Michael Elbaum、John S. Wettlaufer1993-10-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

We consider the shape of a slowly growing single crystal, which in equilibrium contains both facets and rounded regions. In a restricted regime of growth drive, a simple modification of the surface-free-energy minimization relevant to equilibrium reproduces experimentally observed behavior during growth and evaporatio…

Electron-Lattice Interaction in Nonmetallic Materials: Configuration Coordinate Diagram and Lattice Relaxation

Yuzo Shinozuka1993-10-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Electron-lattice interactions in nonmetallic materials are reexamined in the many-electron scheme. The difference in the stable atomic configuration between two electronic states is the origin of the electron-lattice interaction. We show the relationship among the adiabatic potentials, one electron (hole) energy and t…
