Magnetization of graphene tubules

Mingyao Lin、Kenneth W. -K. Shung1995-09-15Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Magnetization (M) comes from both the persistent currents and the spin polarization. The spin-B interaction is important in a graphene tubule, because it makes the one-dimensional subband with the divergent density of states capable of crossing the Fermi level (${\mathit{E}}_{\mathit{F}}$=0 eV). It causes cusps in mag…

Morphology of nylon 6/polypropylene blends compatibilized with maleated polypropylene

A. González‐Montiel、H. Keskkula、Donald R. Paul1995-09-15Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to examine the morphology of blends of nylon 6 and polypropylene (PP) containing various maleated polypropylenes (PP‐g‐MA). The size of the dispersed polypropylene particles decreases as the content of maleic anhydride in the PP‐g‐MA increases for binary blends…

Copper nitride thin films prepared by radio-frequency reactive sputtering

Toshiro Maruyama、Tomonori Morishita1995-09-15Journal of Applied Physics

Copper nitride thin films were obtained by the reactive sputtering method. A metallic copper target was sputtered in nitrogen gas with radio-frequency (rf) magnetron sputtering equipment. Highly [100]-oriented polycrystalline films of the cubic anti-ReO3 structure were obtained. Films with a lattice constant above 3.8…

Site symmetry analysis of the 738 nm defect in diamond

Steven W. Brown、S. C. Rand1995-09-15Journal of Applied Physics

Based on a detailed analysis of polarized Raman and luminescence measurements of a ‘‘mosaic’’ diamond film, symmetry properties of a ubiquitous point defect observed in diamond films are determined. Specifically, the defect, which gives rise to emission at 738 nm, is determined unequivocally to be a 〈110〉-oriented def…

We report the fabrication and properties of three-, four-, and five-layer electroluminescent devices fabricated from light emissive N-based heterocyclic novel polymeric derivatives of PPP and PPV with which they are isoelectronic. They include poly(pyridine vinylene), (PPyV), and poly(2,5-dihexadecanoxy phenylene viny…

New copolymers for applications as organic LEDs

Charles W. Spangler、John W. Thurmond、Hu Li 等 8 位作者1995-09-15Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

During the past five years, (pi) -conjugated organic polymers, such as poly[p-phenylene vinylene] (PPV) and polythiophenes, have become attractive alternatives to semiconducting materials as light-emitting diodes. Various approaches to tuning emission wavelength have been proposed, such as controlling the conjugation…

Highly active and thermally stable nonlinear optical polymers for electro-optical applications

Yongming Cai、Alex K.‐Y. Jen、Yue‐Jin Liu 等 4 位作者1995-09-15Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

Poled guest-host polyquinoline thin films are shown to demonstrate both exceptionally large electro-optic activity and long-term thermal stability. After an initial drop from 45 pm/V to 26 pm/V in the first 100 hours, the electro-optic coefficient r33 at 26 pm/V remained for more than 2000 hours.

Thin film conductive polymers on aluminum surfaces: interfacial charge-transfer and anticorrosion aspects

R. J. Racicot、Robert Clark、H.-B. Liu 等 6 位作者1995-09-15Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

We studied conductive polymers as an anti-corrosion coating on 7075-T6 aluminum alloys. A double strand polyaniline molecular complex was used as the coating material. The new double strand polyaniline complex is advantageous compared with the traditional polyaniline by improvements in processability and stability. Po…

Solvent and salt effects on the morphological structure of polyaniline

Marie Angelopoulos、Yun‐Hsin Liao、B. K. Furman 等 4 位作者1995-09-15Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

Extensive gel permeation chromatography coupled with surface structure and mechanical property measurements clearly indicate that polyaniline in the base form has a tendency to aggregate or agglomerate as a result of intermolecular hydrogen-bonding. The aggregation is present in the solid state powder. The degree of a…

In this communication we report results obtained in our laboratory on the design, the synthesis, and the characterization of new light-emitting copolymers. We are interested in block copolymers containing well defined conjugated sequences, which give rise to luminescence. Those chromophores, which are (pi) -conjugated…

Frequency dispersion and temperature variation of complex permeability of Ni-Zn ferrite composite materials

Takanori Tsutaoka、Masahiro Ueshima、Toshihiko Tokunaga 等 5 位作者1995-09-15Journal of Applied Physics

Permeability spectra in Ni-Zn ferrite composite materials were studied at the volume loading of ferrite above 30% and at temperatures from 100 to 400 K. The permeability decreased with decreases in the volume loading of ferrite. This decrease was much larger than that expected from the empirical mixing law. This was a…

Within the framework of the generalized multiple-scattering theory, a conceptually clear and transparent derivation of the real-space screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method is presented. Static polarizabilities of single-wall carbon nanotubes

Lorin X. Benedict、Steven G. Louie、Marvin L. Cohen1995-09-15OpenAlex

The static electric polarizability tensor of single-wall carbon nanotubes is calculated within the random-phase approximation using a simple tight-binding model and a classical correction to include local fields. We find that the polarizability for constant fields parallel to the cylindrical axis is highly dependent o…

Andrew G. Rinzler、Jason H. Hafner、Pavel Nikolaev 等 9 位作者1995-09-15OpenAlex

Field emission of electrons from individually mounted carbon nanotubes has been found to be dramatically enhanced when the nanotube tips are opened by laser evaporation or oxidative etching. Emission currents of 0.1 to 1 microampere were readily obtained at room temperature with bias voltages of less than 80 volts. Th…
